Dear all,
We are currently working on the second series of the Used Car Roadshow for ITV/ Men & Motors and we are looking to film a feature entitled Coolest Cars ever.
The idea of this item is that both our presenters (Jason Dawe/ previously on Top Gear and now a Sunday Times journalist and Penny Mallory/ previously on Channel 4's Driven and former Female Rally Champion) will be showing of their 3 coolest cars on the programme in an effort to compare theri choices.
One of Penny Mallory's choices is an SL55 AMG and I am therefore trying to find a kind owner who would be willing to feature their car on TV for 5 minutes of fame. Can't be bad having your car billed as coolest car ever and surely having Penny Mallory sat in it will only add to its value :)
The recording for this specific episode will be taking place at Powderham Castle in Kenton, Exeter on 9th July.
Please do register your interest with me via email or phone and I will talk you through the fine detail.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,

wow what a thrill NOT - surely they can rent one of these from one of the performance car hire people - or if finding the money is the problem even ask MB or perhaps they did and got the John MacEnroe reply :D

smacks of cheap tv if you ask me. as has quite rightly been suggested, for about £400 a day they could hire one, but no, they want you to bring yours down and stand off camera while they talk about your car. you dont get on tv, its about the car. the car gets fame and you dont! Fab!
I am sure MB or in fact an MB dealer would give them one for a mention in someway!
unless of course they suddenly offer some financial incentive?

Hang on!
Men and Motors? how many people watch that? and be honest, would having your car on TV really add to its value? (Bond film excepted) with Penny in it?
Nigel Mansell sat in it, or Sir Stirling Moss maybes but come on! Penny? thats pushing it a bit isnt it?

That is the problem with the multi-channel environment we find ourselves in. As program makers can no longer guarentee any audience figure the cost of making programs has had to drop. Screenwriters appear to be one of the first casualties looking at the number or reality TV shows.

yes possibly, but he got rid of the SL55 he had.
am completely and utterely unsure of what car he has now. no doubt it will be very good indeed, but far too common i should think.!!!!!!!!

Ah yes, but given the alleged reliability of the GT, I wonder what he drives most of the time (when the GT is back in the shop)?

I believe his everyday vehicle is an AMG SLK hence Mr SlinKys slightly tongue in cheek comment...

You wouldn't want Robbie Coltrain sitting in your car...would you?
I think JC gave up on the GT40. It's a great car but for driving in modern traffic it's useless.
Because you are so low you can't see past all the 4x4s and you get blinded by modern headlights at night. The GT40 is also very wide, can't go over speed bumps and has very poor rear visability.

ask a silly question .....
On the same vein - I'd also like a free AMG V8 for the day. Usual stuff, I want to thrash it round a track and generally give it the once over. If you are interested, PM me and we can arrange for you to bring it to my house, at your own expense, at a time convenient to me. In return, a friend will take a photo of me sitting in it. (£10 per copy of you want one).
If you have anything of similar exclusivity and performance, I may be prepared to lower my sights slightly though no bangers please, my time is valuable.
Please form an orderly queue....

Men and Motors channel has been chopped off the standard freeview/top up tv now as well - in favour of yet another stupid quiz channel. So its now even more obscure. Pity, there used to be some good stuff on there

Sometimes there was even the odd programme about cars. ;)

Watched one once. Had a Mogle (I believe she meant model) supposedly presenting a car show. She went to interview a bloke proudly showing off his Mcclaren F1. She couldn't understand what he was showing her, wasn't even remotely interested anyway. From what I could tell, the only thing lower than her IQ was her cleavage. Sorry but if that's the best SAt TV can offer, I'd rather not bother. I'm afraid it falls into the category of 57 channels and nothing on - except that somewhere at any time, day or night, there will be an episode of top gear running. It's getting a bit sad now, as they show you the latest model of something with an 03 plate on it that you saw the first time, then again 2 weeks ago, last week and yesterday. Add in the fact that statistically if you switch on the telly randomly you'll be faced with a constant stream of badly made, irritating ads, not programming and I'd happily shut the whole lot down and go back to 3 channels! LONG LIVE THE LICENCE FEE!!!!
They should release the Top Gear winter olympics special on DVD though. That one was a classic!

Still can't believe I have been told to post my query about finding an SL55 on this forum. Anybody on this Forum that actually isn't bitter about life in any way shape of form?
By the way... an answer to the numerous sarcastic remarks would be... We actually cover petrol costs of all our guests and provide them with a copy of the show on which their item/ car features. If you would to get lots of money for featuring your car on a TV show then they ought to considering moving to a different planet as budgets are being slashed continoulsy which makes it much more challenging to find cars for a TV show. Fortunately there are people out there that are genuinely helpful with no hidden agendas and that makes the whole experience worth wile for me.
I take it I just posted on this Forum at the wrong time with the wrong people replying to my post.
All the best and hopefully you will get over this tragic experience.

as they said to me when I first went to work, " if you haven't got a sense of humour, you shouldn't have joined "
Don't take it to heart, we were probably only pulling your leg. But then again, it's not " the Office " you are working on , is it.

I guess you may need to live in the real world for a few moments.
none of your points were brought up in your original post and therefore may well have influenced the sarcastic nature of some of the replies. You may well have been advised to post on here, but that did not stop you researching the forum for similar posts by other TV companies before which generally generate a response similar to what you recieved.
and further to that, if you really beleive that you are above everyone on here, and judging by your response thats what i have a feeling you think, then you really need to get out more!
dont make the habit of assuming anything you seem to have just becasue you have been give some stick. its a big boys world out there and stick is often given. your untimley and badly made remarks about the people who use the forum are not welcome, but at least the members on here will be able to ignore them.
For your information, waving the carrot of Tv land does not always impress some!
Thanks for your posts anyway.

SLinkKyjoe,
Feedback taken.
I did not post on this forum in order to offend anybody and equally did not expect to get so much stick. I can take some stick but you will have to agree that some of the remarks were a bit off the mark.
I am just trying to make the show succesful and in order to achieve that there is a hell of a lot of goodwill that's needed from other people and I for one really appreciate and respect that. I will always do my utmost when it comes to dealing with people that they get something out of it and I would be very disappointed if people had to be out of pocket to help us.
I would love to wave with lots of cash in order to make it worth your while (ie for people involved on the programme) but especially on Satelite channels the money just isn't sufficient. I am the first one to admit that people should be rewarded for their efforts and time but it is out of my hands.
You will understand that it is slightly frustrating when you are trying to do your job but because of other TV people that have messed people about in the past (and there are a few out there) it will make things quite difficult.
I had no intention of offending anybody and I do sincerely apologize if that has been the case. Admitedly i was saddened by some of the comments I read on the Forum which prompted my reply.
On an off the record note... I don't play the TV card because as far as I am concerned it's just a job and I enjoy doing it because of the versatile nature of the programmes and topics you get to work on.
Kind regards,
Marc

And just in case you think we are really bad, awful and have no customer service of any nature,
you could also try posting your request on www.mbclub.co.uk
you may get the same response but I am sure if you were to add some more information you may also get a response that has a desired effect for your TV day. Perhaps you want to post about your mile high club post too.

Thank you - much apprecited. I shall try to post a more detailed ad on that website.
I really hope the Mile High Club takes off because I believe it would be really nice to see what sort of cars we could find. The idea originated from a Merc advert I saw on German TV where the husband comes home late and as his wife opens the door he claims to have broken down in his Mercedes. The wife promptly slaps him across the face and walks off.
Then in good old Mercedes Benz fahsion the Black screen comes on whith the Mercedes logo and a note saying... 'He should have been told that a Mercedes Benz will only break down after 1,000,000 km' - I am trying to get hold of this video through the press office at the moment.

Blimey it's gonna be difficult to get him on the show though. We are also/ or we were should I say looking for a GT40 but with Goodwood being on at the same time and Le Mans celebrating GT40's 40th anniversary victory no chance on earth of getting hold of one. Tried the Ford Press Office and numerous other places but they are all booked up.

Good luck with the GT - as you say, hens teath at the best of time. I'm a bit surprised that no local dealer would provide an SL for the day. They could use the whole thing as a bit of a promo - local press etc, plus I'm sure the sales manager would like the opportunity to sleaze around the presenters. (You think you got grief - try being a dealer!) I'm actually not aware of any SL55 owners on the forum. The closest we seem to have is Slinky's slk55. I guess this is because most people join a forum when they have problems so we tend to be owners of the older cars primarily and I suspect such forums are considered a bit 'below' owners of £80k+ rockets.

Thanks for that. I have tried a few dealers via MB Press office but they haven't got man power on a Sunday - at least that's what they say.
I'll get one if it's the last thing I do - but I have got a few other options with DB9 and Vanquish on our presente's list. Only problem is that most owners of those cars think anybody is 'below' them. You just can't win :)

you could give them ago, but i was down there last week and they didnt seem overly keen on gioving me one for a run out. altho they did leave me 2 messages on monday. havnt had time to get back to them.
its the V8vantage I am interested in. i got the impression they looked down on me too.
I see mercedes customer service is up to its usual standards by not having anyone provide a car.

Thanks for that. Problem is - although our production company is based in Leeds - the filming is happening in Exeter, so a bit of a long shot.
