Hi All,

I just going to ask out of curiosity (because it doesn't bother me that much), but sometimes the little "arm" that gives me my seatbelt on my 300CE doesn't work. Does anyone know much about how these work?

I'm not sure if it's a dodgy contact somewhere, or a worn motor or something. The passenger side always works, which is odd.

Anyone know where I should look, or what the problem might be, before I consider tearing out all the trim?

cheers,

Nik

There are two parts to this arm. The first part is a switch / sensor inside the seat. It may seem obvious but there is a sensor in the seat so that when the seat is empty the arm shouldnt move.

If the sensor in the seat or the circuit is disconnected (between motor and switch in seat) then the arm will not move. Check under your seat and you will find next to the vacuum tube there will be two cables. Make sure the cables haven't come disconnected or have a bad connection and try again. Failing that, you could try to short circuit the two cables. (The side disappearing under the carpet). It's a normally open circuit - close it and fool the sensor inside the seat into thinking your sitting on it and see what happens.

If the above isnt working then the most likely culprit is the motor that controls the arm itself. You could test the motor by whipping it out and connecting it directly to a battery supply to see if it is working or not.

My money is on the seat sensor though

I once had a 500 SEC with a similar problem, it turned out to be the relay behind the trim which had got water in it
