wire on the washer jets

Today i had a free afternoon,and i did a bit off tinkering around on the car.
I noticed that the washer jets have what can only be described as two cut wires about 2mm sticking out from them.My car is a 1998 280 elegance with all the toys,can any body shed any light to what function this is ? :?
I can only think of it is for heating the jets when frozen,why they are cut,well i will never know,olen

MB had trouble for a while with the jets burning and often causing a small fire, maybe someone cut them for this reason??

yes, we were changing hundreds for a while, new ones are ok

Hi All

This modifications where on the early 190e's and 124's. Easily identified by the washer jets being a grey colour instead of the new ones which are black.

Thanks for all your advice,i think i will leave them cut,especially as the fire birgade are planning on more strike action :lol:
