I was looking throught the autotrader this week and i saw a g230GE on a D 1987 plate, for £1K. It has a fault with the petrol pump. I was wonderring how much would a new pump be and is this a common fault.
also how much is it worth.

Hey, you could try popping into the 4x4 and off-roader forum on www.mercedesshop.com, there may be people with some more lengthy answers than us!
good luck

The petrol pumps are about £80, I seem to recall.
The vehicles are very well engineered and very tough, but they need to have been properly maintained and not many of them are. The 4-cyl 230 engine was also too weedy for such a vehicle and the 280 would be better, although this was a bit of a guzzler (300GD even better).
But if you are really interested, you should perhaps aim for a "463" version that came out after 1991. These have a better range of engines, improved interiors, and most importantly, permanent 4-WD.
The one you saw was a "460" series that would have had part-time 4-WD and manually operated diff-locks. The new "461" is its direct replacement, which sits as the more utilitarian version of the "463".
try looking at:

Note that the first one is MB's new official site but that they had to alter the spelling because of the second site.
MB had stopped importing G-Wagens to the UK since about 1997, but started again last year. The G-Wagen was also due to be phased out, but demand is still strong (and I heard that they may be selling some to the US to replace the Hum-Vee.) So, it may still be around for quite a while. Certainly a very exclusive vehicle in th UK.
