Folks,
almost everyone refers to the their model MB with a W prefix. I've gone through my owners manual and every piece of documentation I've got, but have not found any reference to a "W" number.
I've a 1995 Australian delivery C180, currently getting the Ignition lock replaced.
Thanks for your info and time.
Cheers

Your car being a 1995 C180 it will be a W202 series.
The 190 is a W201 series.
The newer C class with the different front lights 1999 on are the W203 series.
Look under the bonnet at the chassis No and it should start W202???????????.

unless its an estate - then its a T202... or a coupe C202 (i know they didnt do one...)
W = wagon or saloon
T= esTate (or somthing in german..)
C = coupe

Folks,
thank you for your comments. I had checked under the bonnet and found the Chasis number beginning with WDB202018 2F 299917, so I suspected it may be a W202, however I decided I'd better confirm this before embarking on ordering spare parts from our best MB supplier in Canberra.
Appreciate your info, your comment and your time.

your dealer will need the chassis number to order parts anyway...
my dealer is a prat - I told him i wanted x part for a C140 and he looked up C class parts (there is no such thing a a 1.4 litre C class....) :roll:

I thought the Estate chassis code was 'S'. They just used the T on the badging, might be wrong tho
Also R for roadster

For a good list of chassis code numbers:

for some reason the above link doesn't *look* right, but it does work
if im not misstaking the T stands for Touring.
I guess this is a little blasphemy but BMW also calls their estate/combi for Touring..

I thought T stood for transporter.
transporter = Transportvorrichtung in german :)
