Quite common on Artico trimmed seats.

i'd prefer leather Malcolm but as always i can't find a car with all the things i want, so if this is a common failure what do people do to fix them ?

But it will go again, that is a problem with it, not only that the surface can also come away leaving the backing showing.

Cloth? But I think cloth seats usually come with Artico bolsters

Peter's correct - mine was £100 and they removed the seat and replaced the offending panel - including matching the stitching.

I Know that leather or similar materials are not the first choice in Sweden, but Mercedes do not offer anything else, not easy is it. :(

no its not easy, i've narrowed down my choice now to three cars, a 350, a 250 w AMG styling, and a 220 w AMG styling, I'm really leaning towards the AMG styling as it looks so much nicer, they all are with different specs none with leather as i couldn't get leather and the look i wanted...

i'll keep looking...

Just goes to show that it's only really the UK which (falsely) regards leather as an essential 'luxury' car installation.

Nuts, isn't it?

Noticed it a tiny rip in the drivers seat 2 weeks ago in almost exactly the same position as in the picture you attached. Hope it doesn't become any bigger. Just under 27,000miles. Although I have car OCD, I don't think I will bother with trying to fix it if it involves taking the seat out. Just too many things (wiring) that could go wrong.

Just think in buses and trains they fit a cloth that will take any punishment thrown at them, and here we are with 3 years old mercedes with holes in the seats.:(:(

I looked at 5 ML's before buying Dad's and 3 of them had this issue, it really is pathetic.

agreed i think it's disgraceful, these are new cars after all, my cloth seat 1962 mercedes has some minor tears but that's understandable because it's over 50 years old, but a 3 year old car having a rip like that, it's terrible, what did they make these seats out of, paper ?

No, thin plastic. Just as bad.

The local dealer to me will no longer take any Mercs in with Artico, as when it goes a couple of months down the road the customer, rightly so, expects it to be repaired.
