I have just taken delivery of a 63 plate c class se exec. I says in the sales lit it has parktronic with guidance. It does have all round parking sensors with the read out bar in front of the windscreen and one in the roof.

How can I tell if it has full parktronic where it shows how to park

I have parktronic on my CL when you are driving slowly a blue P comes up in the center of the dash.

how do you get it to work though?
I've had my E seriers for 4 months now and so far it's engaged once. I have no idea how to get it to function. I asked my local MB dealer and was told that 'the car will tell me when I can use it' but not how to get the thing to work!

I have it on mine and just ignore it. It is of no use.
It lights up on any old street when driving slowly, whether or not parking spaces exist.
My eyes do a far better job.

Yep, same on my C class.
From memory you have to press button on steering wheel then the display tells you when to turn, utterly pointless in my opinion.

Nik.

It's fantastic!
Drive down a road with cars parked on your left at a slow speed, ie if you are searching for a space. When you pass a gap that is the right size the P will appear with an arrow indicating left. Select reverse and the system asks "would you like to auto park" or something similar. Hit OK on your steering wheel and hey presto, the car steers while you use brakes and gas.
Note that it won't work if there aren't two cars to park between!

It's a great tool, I use it every day at the office.

Incidentally, to get the car to look for spaces on the right hand side of the road, you need to turn on your right indicator, the rest of the process is as above.

Neil H - I hope you can help me here.

I have the system on my 2012 S Class and I've not really understood what it should do.

Having read your note, I've just tried it and it all looks good and then and my dash shows the guidance lines although the car doesn't steer the car.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Is there different levels of guidance systems here?

Isn't it only those models with electro hydraulic steering racks that can actually self steer?

That could be the case - hence the level of system on the cars are different. That's a shame, I could have had fun with that!

I think there are different levels. Mine doesn't actually steer, it only shows when and which way I should steer.

In my 12 months of driving I've used it precisely zero times, but then I'm a man and refuse to take directions or advice.

It does sound like you don't have the same system. I know it's on the new ML as I gave one of my colleagues a lesson a while back and she hasn't hit anything since!

Along with Distronic (which I covet far more than my neighbours wife but don't have) the auto park function is my favourite gadget.

Distronic... nope, don't have that one either. (Then again, I drive the bottom of the range E-class!)

PS: Can we see a picture of your neighbour's wife? ;-)

You steer the car and operate the go pedal keeping in the green lines. You don't have the full auto park system. You have 'park assist' not 'parktronic' I believe. The silver trims down the length of the car are the sensors.

You can even park between gaps in the armco or concrete kerb in the middle of the motorway when in a queue :D

Thanks guys , that's why I love these forums, wondered what the arrow was that came up next to the p, just tried it, just got to have confidence in it. Seems mine is the park assist:D:D

On mine the 'P' changes from a white 'P' in a black box to a white 'P' in a blue box with a white border as the car determines the space available. The arrow shows which side of the car the space is once you pass it. Think the manual says push the indicator stalk for the side then 'OK' on the steering wheel and bob's your uncle. The display is in the main pod, not the command screen.

I wasn't sure about it at first, but it works. Very impressive putting my S350L into tight spaces, provided some prick doesn't then get even tighter after you leave the car :D

I have only tried it once in a Tesco car park and it worked just fine, I have to steer mine. I will never remember how to do it again :(

Shame its all wasted now as we have the blue badge.

I'm the exact reverse of you Malc. Had a blue badge for Mrs H and only used it once! Took 4 months for them to issue it and 6 days to ask for it back when she died!!

Think this is a bit skewed

Parktronic is the sensors round the car.
Active Parking Guidance is what I have in my E350, comes up with the P when the space is big enough and it instructs you on how to park.
Active Park Assist is where it does it all for you.

someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I also have silver trim but it's literally trim not parking sensors, the sensors are the round dots on the bumpers.
