CLK 320 CDI Sport (w209)
Hi,

I have had a w208 clk for over 7 years, cant go wild but thinking of upgrading to the clk w209. Always had a soft corner for the clk's but have a limited budget about 9k max.

I have found several examples of CLK but i am in a bit of a dilemma and hope you guys can help me out.

CLK 2005

Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 CDi Sport 2dr Tip Auto 3.0
67877 miles (Full MB Service)
Silver,
18" Alloys, Park Distance Control,
Panoramic Glass Sunroof,
Heated Front Seats,
Climate Control,
Satellite Navigation,
Bluetooth
Cruise Control, Automatic Headlight Activation. 4 seats,
£8,575 + road tax = £285

CLK 2007
Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 CDi Sport 2dr Tip Auto 3.0
71000 miles (Full MB service)
BLUE, Next MOT due 28/02/2015,

Same specs as the 2005 model but does not have the following
Xenon projector lights
Sunroof

£8,000

I am really confused i really want the sunroof + bixenons, but the 2005 makes it feel really old. When the 2007 makes me feel like its a bit more newer.

Is there any design or mechanical differences between the models? Would the 2007 be better in anyway? better tech and design?

HELP!

The 209 is a wonderful car all round, very few faults, good looking and lovely to drive in.

Do wait for a car with the xenons, and if you want the glass roof, stick out wait.

The performance of the 320cdi is good, member Simon has just bought one.

I want to change my car, but its on hold till the new year, little things like comand, comfort seats are so nice to have, One will come along in the colour that you would like.

cause the two years of difference cant be i know that!!

I would say little difference between them, the comand may have had an update.

I normally buy the sales books from Ebay for the years concerned if Ido not have them.

The 2007 car must be the best buy, and do allow for no warranty, you could use this as a bargaining tactic.

209's are excellent.
They have worn very well and still look good today.
I am on my third....
The V6 Diesel is a sublime engine..
Whichever car you go for if its the 320 Diesel DO HAVE THE INLET/TURBO OIL SEAL CHANGED.
Its a weak point on this engine. Most mechanics now are taking the wise step of changing it when the air filters are changed... (Every other service).
I have owned 2 2006 models and 1 2009 ....
I stronly suggest that if you are hunting for your car via AutoTrader you widen the search distance and be prepared to TRAVEL !!!
I travelled 210 miles for my latest because it is the colour combo I wanted.
Bi Xennons are a must..
I would not be without them...

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
I have to counter....

I had a w208 320i Petrol - was a brilliant car.:D

I now have a 2004 270CDi and it's been an unreliable bag of cr@p!!!!!!

I won't list all the issues - suffice to say look up Black Death on this forum and get yourself REALLY familiar with it.

From a man who knows - unless you do mega miles, get a petrol - vastly better from a reliability / nice to drive perspective.

Even with my miles (20k per annum) I'd have a petrol merc and LPG it in preference to a diesel every time.

What engine is your W208?

This will be a 111 for a 230.

Both of these cars are about 2 hours drive for me, however i am stuck with the year of production.

Very indecisive about which one to get, the 55 plate has everything i want but for the same price i can get a 57 plate which lacks a few things and for some reason that doesn't give me peace of mind and i cant seem to decide.

Do stick out for the things that you would like, otherwise you will never feel that happy, sure it may take a little longer, but cars come onto the secondhand market every day.

Do not forget Pistonheads, they have a lot on there

Actually, surely age, condition, mileage and provenance are more important when buying used Television?

I say that because a car with every option possible that's been neglected may be a worse buy than a loved and cherished slightly more basic model.

If the 2005 is that much better to you, but the age bothers you, buy a private plate to hide the age for ~£200...

Don't see why age is that important anyway if the car suits your needs!

Absolutely every time, I assumed that both car mentioned would be in good condition. It is sometimes not possible to get a badly neglected car back to how it was or should be.;)
