Hi all,

I have a bit of a problem.....I have had 4x Goodyear Assymetrics on for about a month now ...the fronts seem ok but the rears make the car skittish ......instead of the rear just rolling over the bump or cats eye in damp weather it will skid off it sideways or just drop off the bump and i do not like the feel of it???, this is driving in a straight line.

It does this when just driving normally without much throttle or speed as said just ordinary driving. If i drive fast on the Mway all ok.

I bought these tyres and even threw the front Contis away with 5mm still on them so that i was the same tyre all round but now wish i had`t bothered.

The front pressures are on the recommended 32psi and 33psi on the rears ...i was thinking of dropping the rear pressure a bit but i do travel fast and i know the pressure should be increased for faster speed?

The tyres are very quiet compared to the Nexen upper budget tyres which were on the rear but they did handle well with no problems ...this has just happened simply on a tyre change.

The only other tyre i have had that did this was Pirelli Cinturato on my Mini Cooper in 1968 .....but we are now 2016!

Any ideas about tyre pressure?....or does someone else have a similar problem on the C class?...the suspension is all fine.

I have them on one of my cars, and so far I have not noticed anything, I would try them a touch lower and see, I never have my car fully laden either.

If they have not been many miles, , they may not have bedded in yet.

I noticed the same as you Keith in the new car, the rear is a little as you call it "skittish" on things like cats eyes, I've tried dropping a few psi (from 33 to 29) but it made very little difference, as the car is still new to me I'm going to try having it all aligned and see if that helps but I'm not holding my breath. while I think about it these are Michelins if it makes any difference.

I have 17" Eagle F1 Asymmetrics all round on my S204 C220 and love them! Never noticed anything along the lines you're describing - just excellent grip and, as you say, very quiet.

Chris, these tyres are the quietest tyres ever, I have the A30 going to Exeter all concrete and just so noisy, but not on these as you say they are so quiet. :D:D

My dad binned the Conti SP5 for Goodyear on his W204 no problems at all, and the GY is a far better tyre and much quieter

Well at least someone else has the same feel as me even though a different tyre...what motor are you?

I have a receipt for 4 wheel alignment done when i bought the car and have only done 4000 max. in 14months!!

Suspension is all A1 and the tyres are on the correct way around.

I am going to light them up a few times with the ESP off and scrub off the surface also drop a psi and see what happens.

Shame really as they are really quiet tyres.

Another one similar to you here Keith.

Put mine on last month and the first time I took it out it was *interesting* to say the least. I've used them before on another less powerful car and they were fine, but noticed with this one when I accelerated it I had very limited grip and felt like it wanted to break away. This was on a motorway slip road and it started to break traction before I backed it off. I must stress I wasn't hammering it, only doing around 55 - 60mph, but it certainly woke me up.

Initially I put it down to the tyres being new, probably having a bit of mould release agent left on them, but I've since done a few more miles and still have issues, with it wanting to dance a little more that I would like.

Having said that, I know that these Goodyear have a softer sidewall, so that may account for a bit, also the weather hasn't been too kind so far, but so far I'm not over the moon with these tyres. Hopefully in another couple of months it will start to get a bit warmer and they may hopefully work a bit better, but at the moment I'll be taking it very easy.

For reference, I have them on the rear only, 285-30 R19 and a fair bit of power going through a limited slip differential, but so far they're nowhere near as good as the Vredestein which they replaced, and I wasn't over enamoured with those. :(

Roll on Summer. :D

Dave, before you did your mods, did you check to see if there were any suitable tyres made. ;)

The one consolation is that they don't last too long Malcolm, so I get plenty of chance to try different ones out. :)

I was actually recommended these by a friend who swears by them, but I'm not happy with them so far.

I put mine on about last July, have probably done about 5k miles since then, checked them Sunday and still loads and loads of tread above the wear indicators! Admittedly I do not drive agressivly most of the time as the satnav in the passenger seat objects!

Well, I think the same as yourself about them and "dancing" is the best description.

When I start from cold and go downhill to the bottom of our road I have to pull away quick because of the fast traffic approaching my junction and I know the tyres are cold but every morning the traction light does a couple of blinks and it never used to with the low tread budget tyres which were on the rear before.

Being the Sport model the suspension is quite firm but never the less my old knackered tyres on 2mm limit were a lot better at their job...lol

I bought them as I read all about Goodyear be for hand on the forums.

We will see what happens tomorrow!

Are you 100% sure they are exactly the same front and rear?

Check load ratings, model descriptions, MO marked etc. etc. and report back.

Yes all the load and speed ratings are identical to my Merc. handbook....also i have staggered sizes being Sport and all that etc.

Anyway went out this morning with the ESP off and felt a teenager again doing wheelies etc. but only in a quiet safe place.....lol

Went around equal left right situations spinning the wheels and on the way back home at normal driving again the ride was noticeably better...i do believe it is the cold temperature that is giving the not so good ride?

Also i think it made the back suspension links and bushes warm up a bit.

My Volvo 960 when first used on cold mornings used to rattle and squeak but after about 5 mls it was very quiet all the noises gone as it had warmed up the suspension parts.
