W219 CLS Airmatic Fault Code Query ??

I have a CLS with an airmatic fault. My Delphi diagnostic sofware shows only one fault code stored: 5194 - "Voltage supply of the valves - Short circuit to ground - Intermittent".

Does this mean the voltage supply to the solenoid valves in the airmatic valve bock, or something else? I don't know which other "valves" it would be talking about?

Only symptoms have been the airmatic warning on the dash, and once it lowered itself so the wheel arches were level with the tops of all the tyres! I cleared the code and it reset all the levels perfectly, but now it's done it again. This time the fault code cannot be cleared and is showing as "permanent".

Thanks

Anyone have any ideas? Could it be the control relay rather than something with the valve block?

Sorry I cannot do that code as not a mercedes one, it is possible for the relay for the pump to fail.

that code doesn't correspond to ANYTHING. id imagine it comes under chassis as its suspension (rather than powertrain) so should be a C code id guess, starting with 0, 1, 2 or 3 usually. some are generic, some manufacturer specific

Thanks for the replies. Someone else on this forum posted fault code 5193 (one digit different to my code 5194) It's meaning was - "Power supply Sensors : Short circuit to ground STORED"??

I don't have Star unfortunately, so I don't know what the fault crosses over to. I wonder if the description sounds familiar to any of you?

Thanks

The compressor/pump has tested fine, but I believe there's a separate relay for the Airmatic system?

Yes the relay is prone to going down and only a £10 part. I keep one in the glovebox as a spare. Mercedes recommend that when the pump is changed the relay is also changed as a matter of course. The fault does sound like the relay failing to earth and for such a small outlay certainly worth changing.

Thanks Malcolm,
Are you talking about changing the compressor relay or the Airmatic relay? I'm a bit confused as to whether there are two different relays, or just one that people are calling two different names?
Thanks

The compressor relay, the worst scenario is that they fail open circuit and burn out the air compressor which is why I keep a spare in the glove box

Problem Still Not Solved?!

I though I'd update everyone on progress and what's been replaced to date:

2015 - Garage replaced Airmatic pump and fuse.

2016 - Independent Mercedes specialist investigated. Fault code described as "power supply to valves, short circuit to ground", then carried out the following:
Check wiring to 22 valves
Check Airmatic control unit
Check & Test Airmatic wiring harness
Check all solenoid sensors on all 4 struts
Check & Test compressor, pressure relief valve and regulator
Renew compressor relay
Carry out modified relay housing and wiring loom

2017 - Independent Mercedes specialist again: Found leak on nsf strut air bag. Fitted new strut and also osf upper ball joint and aux battery?

Fault still remains. Sometimes it's fine, other times it lowers down and the Airmatic fault comes on. It's also recovered itself while still driving!! I'm really at a loss on what to try next? There's still only one fault code present: "power supply to valves, short circuit to ground". HELP!!??

Ironically with airmatic problems like this JLR specialists have much more experience than most when it comes to diagnosis, if you can get a recommendation for a local specialist it might be worth consideration

Thanks Malcolm. It's now been to two different specialists for diagnostics, but the one-and-only fault code is always, "power to the valves, short circuit to ground"?

It seems nobody knows which 'valves' this code refers to?

Can you tell me if you can use delphi 150e diagnostic software to reset suspension heights on cLs 500 and cl 500
