Oh, dear, well am sure you'd a good idea that this wasn't going to be a walk in the park Cole, but at least you've gotten things moving plus once done its done for the next, 3/5/10 years, keep at, lovely to see life being breathed back into a true Mercedes classic!

So, good day today, got a fair bit done,

Rear brakes all replaced now

So thats new disks and pads all round, no more noise, new brake pipes rubber and metal on the rear......the old ones where rusty

New adjuster now fitted so we have a good tension on the fan belt, old one really poor state....

Kept it well covered up

Noticed a oil leak the other week on the garage floor, traced the leak to the O rings coming from oil filter housing to oil cooler pipes, cheap seals and not to bad to fit.......didnt look easy at first....

Can just see them on the left.......

Found the easy way was to just pull the starter out.....

O rings now more square.....

As with fitting any standard O rings, loads of grease helps.....

Once that little task was done, i drained the engine oil and gave it a change with a new filter.....

Had the gearbox filter and gasket sat in my toolbox for a few months

so thought i would change that while i was there, drained the convertor to find new looking oil.......lovely and red.....

Same for oil filter, all lovely and clean, looks like its been looked after in its life,

Found this little nasty while undoing the sump bolts, the middle one was missing, this was why.....

Quick drill out and fitted coil.....

Topped up all the levels and road tested,

More to follow soon.....

Interesting, but my preference for 'O' rings would have been Rubber Grease. The pink stuff that you always used to get with brake/clutch cylinder repair kits.

I also use it when fitting rubber water hoses as, if it ever needs to come off again, it ain't such a struggle.

Small up-date, found a damp oil patch the other weekend when i took it to work for a run, found a gearbox fexi pipe starting to leak, swapped that out!!!

Had found a small hole on a chassis leg, didnt look to bad at first

Once cleaned up and cut out the rust it was a tad bigger

Made a few different panels as this is a drain from the chassis rail so couldnt just plate it.

This was the metal work after the new metal was welded in, covered in rust killer in the photos.....

Once dry i put some undercoat on there....

The rear end of this car was perfect, gave it a once over on the lower floor planels........

So looking forward to march april next year, lots to come............

Few up-dates

So, altho its winter time, i have still been doing small bits as i can in my garage at home, always had a thing about the colour of the rocker cover, dont no why but bugged me....

Sent the cover over the road for powder coating and the middle next door in the spray shop......

Nice job as normal from Trestons

Nice bit of paint......

End result more my taste......

To finish the new cover of, i treated it to a new set of merc plugs..

And new leads and clips to hold the leads in the cover

Nice having the leads clipped in correctly

Thought i would get the engine up to date a bit while she sat, 26 years old and some 26 yr parts...

New set of injectors ordered alone with the holders and new seals....

See the difference in the seals, the old ones fell out, well, only done two as it got cold out tonight, do the rest the weekend,

Since owning the car, the airfilter box has always has a missing mount, so replaced the pair of them..........still cheap from merc

More to follow....

With my 1928 RR I used to get the manifolds hot and dip in hot oil, looks quite nice.

So got the new injectors fitted with new oil rings and seals

Put it all back together and ran it up, runs a lot better now, fitted the fresh powder coated air cleaner cover..

Fitted some new shiny nuts

Then started with a few up grades for the inside, set of new speakers all round, went for rainbows IL 4.3 all round, heard so many things about them and they fit the factory holes so keeps the standard look, wasnt a good look once i removed the covers

New one fitted as it should

Rear ones fitted just as easy, much better sound all round, dont have great power but you cant expect that from a 12cm speaker, great sound tho, would recommend them very highy!!!!

Next job was the leaking diff, notice the other weekend when i pulled it out the garage that there was oil on the floor, ordered the three seals from merc and did that today, easy job once the diff is out...

Only leaking on the N/S output shaft but got to do all of them.

Always check you can undo both drain and fill grubs, drain not as important but fill one is...

Unbolt shaft and tie cable them up..

Two rear bolts and a small allen bolt at the front....

Unbolted the rubber donut from the prop, didnt replace this as there was no cracks and looked good

Disconnect the sensor at the nose of the diff and dropped it out,

Once the rear cover is of the diff (oil drained ) you have to find the small C clips holding the output shafts, these pull out but can be hard and can pop out

Sometimes the seals dont wanna come out but a good seal puller or a good size screw driver will do....

I always smear a slight bit of grease on the outer part of the seal and tap the seal home using a large socket and hammer,

The input seal has been up dated, the old one

The new one, this one cant be pushed in to far like the old one, hence the outer ring

Once back together it was out side for a steam clean off, i was gonna paint it but it will be back out in the summer when the rear sub frame comes out for powder coating.....
