Hopefully an easy question. My 2001 CLK230 Kompressor has 205/55/16 tyres all round. However when purchasing new tyre for the back recently. All the sites I put the registration into suggest the front and rear tyres come in different sizes and the garage I got the tyre off suggested it should have 205/55/16 on the front and 225/50/16 on the rear. This was in fact the case with my previous 1997 CLK but I discovered that car had been fitted with Saiph wheel rims which were manufactured for the later CLK 209 models so that didn't really help. Anybody out there able to guide me on this? Does it make a difference to handling? The following guide is from black circles and nowhere does it suggest 205/55/16 all round
Please check carefully and select the tyre size that you are looking to purchase today
Either your front and rear tyres could be the same size235/35R19 W 91 (Fitted to both the front and rear of the vehicle)225/40R18 W 88 (Fitted to both the front and rear of the vehicle)OR they may have different size front and rear tyres205/55R16 W 89 Front tyre225/50R16 W 92 Rear tyre225/45R17 Z 90 Front tyre245/40R17 W 91 Rear tyre

205/55 all round if your wheels are the same width front and rear...simples.

If they are a staggered fit then wider at the back, in which case 225/50...obviously.

.....

Not always simples ...... my Smart Roadster has different width rims front & rear (can't think what size now) but has 205s both front & back.

Yep...but we're talking run of the mill MB here, not a Smart.

I bet we get three pages before the op realises that what was said in #3 was correct.

That makes sense so if all my actual wheel rims are the same size then same tyres all round but if the wheel rims are bigger on the back then as you say 225/50.

Strange that the info from tyre sellers sites don't seem to mention 205/55 all round though isn't it?
