That's surprising. I had a rattle can done at halfords for the 211 and it was pretty much spot on not perfect but it can't be as the old paint will have faded slightly.

Did you give them to code from the door sill or your vin number?

Merc man i know of one such company that will make you a rattle can .But will need a part of your car with the colour on it to scan the part on their computer for a perfict match. I did this last year with code 355 Diamond Blue ..I had paint from Mercedes it was like black on white . And Halfrauds spray and touch up . Even a company on ebay that said , the did touch up paints and it would be exact colour .It would have been when the car was new .But after 28 years in all weathers its lighter than the paint made to day to the right code .I can give you the company address and website if your stuck .Just pm me.

Their 'off the shelf' 744 cans I've always found are just fine.

Depends how one sprays, with metallic base coats.

A lot of shaking is needed with rattle cans to get the colour well mixed. Halfords own mixing scheme...Holts branded , but Du Pont paint, should be a pretty good match to the original. mMost motor factors who mix and sell paint will make you up and aerosol and the match should be spot on.

Just read back on the posts regarding this thread, and as an ex-MB partsman, I wanted to ask why the OP hadn't gone to the local MB dealer and bought a can of 9744? Never known them to be a colour mismatch and seeing as its the most popular colour, it would be rare that they didn't hold it as a stock item. Not sure on the price of it these days but I doubt it will be much more than a rattle can from Halfrauds.
