Hi all

The steering lock has been slow to lock on the C class recently.

I removed the key today and it locked after 3-4 seconds, normally its instant.

Is this is a sign of a failed steering lock motor in my future?

Yep, remove it while you can and tie cable it to the column, it sounds like it's about to fail, it won't affect it starting the car, yes, you won't have a steering lock but so hard to remove if it fails connected to the column.......

Hmm fun!

If it fails to unlock whilst unbolted from the column, will it still start?

Removed today and ziptied to the column.

Apart from lying on my back, possibly the easiest thing to remove ever.

No, it needs to lock and unlock to allow the start sequence. It does give a better Chance of tapping it to get it working for a while.

Only easy if its in the unlock position.

If locked the pin is tough to remove.
