Some 'post-paint' pics would be nice.Dropped the engine oil on the 190E and, after changing the filter, replaced with some nice new stuff as recommended by Merparts up in Port Glasgow. (Fuchs 10w30). It took around 15 minutes to change, plus another 30 to clean up all the old stuff which leaked from my waste oil container.
The car's only done about 2,000 miles since being fully rebuilt though whilst having records for transmission and engine oil changes, I had nothing for the rear end so that was the first thing to be done. All fluids (apart from brake) are now new, along with any filters, leaving me the fuel filter (which looks brand new) and brake fluid to go.
It goes in for a bit of paint next Monday and as soon as I get it back from there I'm going to take it for a well deserved little drive somewhere.

Come on stand back and take the pics! I want to see the whole carIt's only some minor cosmetic stuff on the rear quarters, just that I want to catch it before it spreads. I don't want to go all out with a full blown respray as I want to maintain as much originality as possible, so it's just the little bits which need sorting.
The guy who's doing it is proper old-school so I know that it will be right when it's done, and it helps that I've known him for years.
Obviously no after pictures yet, but here's a before one: -

Just seen this I'm a painter and Dec ,and have found out the hard way ,had big job on couple years ago painting some metal gates ,railings that unknown to me was painted with hammerite, gave them good clean down then used a metal paint made by johnstones paints ,looked ok till I went back next day ,it was all wrinkled up on top of hammerite, was told by rep ,you carnt use another paint on top it as to be hammerite ,or strip back to bare metal same when cleaning ya brushes out no good with white spirit ,you have to use there cleanerResrayed all the wheels with Hammerite last week ... after the reaction of acrylic clearcoat on the Hammerite.
I was told to wait 7 days by Hammerite Tech dept, to avoid this happening. Before overcoating with clearcoat.
I waited a full 7 days .. some nice weather too. I also waited 25 mins between Hammerite coats not the 15 mins stated to let as much as possible dry out during the spraying session. It looked good but not glossy.
Came to spray the clear coat today ... first coat laid on very thin. left it 30 mins not the stated 15mins.
Belt and braces .... Just to be sure.....
even had a 500w light on in the tent afffair to ensure it was circa 23C . And yipee it looked as though it would be great.
Sprayed the second coat ... and f*ck me ... it started to crinkle and react!
Too furious to be disapointed.
I give up!
I will let this wheel dry, and rub this one wheel down, and repaint with Hammerite , so it matches the others
.... I dare not risk anything on top.
End of ...
This paint is not overcoatable period! .. tried 3 different tins!
Unless I got a faulty batch!
WARNING DO NOT USE HAMMERITE FOR CALIPERS - IF YOU WANT TO CLEARCOAT THEM TO GET A GLOSSY FINISH
I THINK THEY HAVE CHANGED IT!
Drove the 129 to work... The sound of an m119 at full chat is very addictive!
Its as much induction roar as exhaust on my 129.... (it needs the exhaust being made a little louder....ok - a lot louder!)I REALLY need the exhaust mod doing to mine. Just can't hear it...

I' m thinking about a 'loud switch' to open alternative exhaust paths with much less sound absorbtion....
