Hi all, searched forum on this problem but came up blank, so here goes.
Wife came home today in clk complaining of diesel smell when blowers are on, so she parked up and let the vehicle cool, i popped out about an hour later, took the both engine covers off and could see slight dampness at No5 injector base, after thoroughly cleaning around the injector and running vehicle, it seems to be the injector seal that is leaking leaking. now is there anything i should look out for when attempting this job, i have no injector puller as yet, i am going to get a new seal, clamp and stretch bolt tomorrow, and attempt job on weekend, one thing i will say there is no black death around the injector base as its just started leaking (not chuffing). my plan is
  1. To remove the injector pipe from the fuel rail to injector
  2. undo torx hold down bolt
  3. remove injector clamp
  4. try and gently turn injector left and right and gently use pulling motion
  5. remove injector
  6. remove copper sealing washer
  7. clean seat
  8. anneal new copper washer
  9. refit all
  10. fingers crossed all will be well, but i doubt it lol

Yes, it'll probably come out easily just by twisting if there's no B.D. present.
No need to anneal new copper.

On mine, the clamp bolt torque was 8 Nm, then 2 x 90 degrees.

Make sure the seats are clean and not burnt, make sure the bolt hole is clear of debris as you can punch a hole onto the water jacket when doing up bolt.

Thanks star, i plan to cover the 8mm hole while i work then clean with some carb cleaner and straw, before i refit the torx bolt, i have a inspection camera to check out the seats, lets hope the seats are ok.

We reface seat and injector but if it's not been blowing for long, it should be ok. Check side of injector for splitting too. No need for camera, torch is fine.

As above ensure both seats are clean and the bolt hole is clean too.

Before you start the job, go for a spin and get the engine HOT. Just remember to watch where you put your hands when you start the job :)

If you want to make it easier next time (if there is a need), use MB's 'special grease', not cheap but does the job

Nope.
When I did mine, I found that some enterprising individual on ebay was selling tiny (20g or something) pots of white/grey ceramic grease very cheaply. Enough for about 20 injectors and glow plugs.
I don't think it was bread sauce...

As per Bob, get things nice and hot before you start, makes a huge difference.

Well the job is done and all ok, thank you for all your invaluable advice :), the only problem i had was getting the actual copper seal out, in the end i used a brickies wall tie, cut it and turned the end to act like a pick, worked a treat, the injector came out lovely as prescribed :), put all back together started vehicle, one slight misfire and then all ok, again thank you all :)

Congrats. I am presuming that this is same engine OM 647 which is used in E270 CDI.
Did you take any pictures while doing this job and how much did it cost you to do this job. I would be grateful if you could provide the vendor info from where you ordered the parts.
Thanks

NOOO!! Do not use copper slip. There is good reasons why there is a special grease. Copper slip will melt.
