Should I get it sealed (and interior protected) by the dealership before I pick it up? I'm being offered it for £795, which seems to be a good deal to me. I've never bothered with car detailing before, but as it's a snazzy paint job I'd hate for a giant bird poo to eat away at at.

Any other tips on keeping it in,good condition would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Keep it waxed and sealed. I had a giant bird poo on my 212 Tenorite Grey for 2 days, happened over a weekend whilst I was away, and it marked the paint.

I'd get it done by a specialist detailer as opposed to the dealer. At least then you know its done properly.
Dealers are well known for the huge markups they take on things like this where the quality of the work is sub standard and the cost of materials has little or no relation to the amount charged.

I don't think any sealants stop bird poo damaging the paint, they just give you a bit longer (and perhaps make it a bit easier) to get it off before the damage happens.

Just bear in mind that there is an obscene mark up for the stealer on these products. In some cases there can be up 5/6/700% mark up. Think carefully before making a decision. I think it is as Srdl has said, it wont stop the bird poo eating the paint, it will only marginally slow the process down. A good buddy of mine always carries a bottle of water and rags in his XF for that very reason

Worth taking into account here that the Selenite Designo Magno is a flat (matt) coating, so the usual waxes, polishes etc are a no go as they'll ruin the finish.

As recommended above, take it to a competent detailer, though make sure they use the correct product for the car.

ETA: Good write up HERE on caring for magno finishes

make sure the place you go are using specific products for the finish as said above and you can then on also maintain the finish yourself. there are dedicated sealants and waxes for your kind of paint like Chemical Guys Matte JetSeal and Matte quick detailers to spruce up or clean very light dust off.

Thank you for all the comments. Get it done, but not by the dealer. Got it!

+ 1 for the detailer route. I had mine Kamikaze coated and windows Gyeon view treated for £550 all in (that included interior protection too)
As others have said it wont make it completely bird poo proof though
Be prepared for that with a pack of baby wipes, very hot water and patience!
Another way is carrying some spare microfibre cloths in the car at all times with your favourite QD- trick is to soak one side with QD, put it that side down on the offending item , wait a bit, then lift off (not wipe)- quick swipe with the other side of the cloth to finish...

However......just had my guy doing a full wash on my car Friday and he pointed out the road rash was showing through - also I notice swirls already ( looks like the idiots at MB Liverpool washed the car even after being asked not to), so it seems the Kamikaze is not living up to its claims ( they say 2 years!! Most others say 1), hardly 6 months, so he's not impressed. Came to a deal for Swissvax cleanse and protect redetail...just need to find the time now to get it done

Have to admit that I'm now starting to wonder whether Selenite Grey Magno is worth the hassle. Perhaps I'll go for a normal metallic finish instead.

It does look awesome though!
I do also love the hyacinth red designo you were considering , that'd be my choice ...have you seen the YouTube videos from a guy 'Mr AMG'? - he's got a site called RBR ( Remove before race) - well worth a look he's got all sorts and did one of the first tests in a designo red s 4matic- awesome!

I agree it looks awesome, but I'd like it to look awesome for a bit longer than just the first 6 months of ownership!

I think I've watched every YouTube review on this car, including the RBR one. The red looks great, but i think it's a bit too much.

The demo I tried was hyacinth red, and it just screamed "look at me" or even worse, "key me". Maybe selenite grey metallic rather than matte?
