Hi,can anyone tell me if the super charger on my 06 plate 1.8 Kompressor W203 has its own oil which needs changing or is it fed by the engine oil?.

The supercharger has its own oil but its not considered necessary to change it.

Why? If it has its own oil then surely it needs changing at some point!.

It isn't part of any service schedule and is supposedly "sealed for life"
That's not to say you can't change it if you want. You need special oil for the s/c and very little.
(around 130ml IRC)

Have a search on Youtube for videos on how to change the oil if you want to do it.

The oil in the supercharger is in a sealed environment so cannot get contaminated by combustion products (one of the main reasons to do an oil change on the engine), friction plates (one of the main reasons for changing autobox oil) or water or dust/dirt. Just as there is no need to change diff oil (for the same reasons) there is no need to change supercharger oil.

Well yes that’s correct but I don’t agree with this rubbish about “sealed for life”,although there is no combustion contamination and like you say it’s sealed from atmosphere as parts wear over time the oil must get contaminated with different particles of metal etc which is not good so that in my mind says change it.....so I will.

When you do it can you please let us know the quality of the oil coming out and the steps you took. Pics would be great. I've not herd of anyone doing it, or how often they fail, though I did see a knackered one on a very old Wheeler Dealers once.
Good luck Robb.

Good luck Robb.

I know of someone who changed the supercharger oil in his E55.
Apparently the old oil is very smelly and not too difficult to change.
I have never heard of a supercharger failing by not changing the oil.

There are "how to" videos on Youtube showing how its done.

Job done!,did it today.....don’t know what all the fuss is about after reading things that are on here about the plugs being stuck etc I had no trouble with mine.
Not got any pictures but it’s simple, the plug is just next to the pulley on mine so I popped it out with no probs, got a syringe I had kicking about and put some washer pump pipe on the end sucked it out.......it was shitty let me tell you,so all that bollocks about sealed for life is bull!!!.
There was about 50/70ml come out of it,I Just filled it to till it come out the hole and then replaced the plug.
I turned the charger by hand to make sure all was well, put the aux belt back on and fired it up :)
Took it for a thrash and all is good.

Just thought I'd check the oil in the supercharger when my mechanic has it for a few more days, apparently whilst it looks good, its about 35 mms below the thread of the plug, where can I get the small amount required, would MB stock it, ball park price? Thanks

Did my supercharger oil a year ago , bourght some from eBay , if you search Eaton supercharger oil or MB supercharger oil there is plenty to choose ( I had used Mobil aircraft turbine oil in the end I think ) .
Probably cost about £20 and a lot of kits come with the syringe to make life easier .
There are some instructional bits on YouTube .
I changed mine at 50k miles , I know a lot of the Mini Cooper crowd have had trouble with some superchargers at the 100k miles Mark .
I'm not sold on the whole sealed for life part (that used to apply to Merc gearboxes as well ) . It's a cheap job , if you intend to have it for a long time I'd go with doing it (as I would diff oil as well ) .
I will be doing my supercharger again at 100k if I still have the car :D .
If for no other reason that yours is down on oil is good reason to change it rather than just top up .

Doubt it , it's still probably an Eaton supercharger , as far as I found they all use the same oil type .
