Pet hates are

1. Mandatory Annual Servicing requirement for a car that has done 2,694 miles in a year!
Used to be 15,500 or every 2nd year, which was a perfect balance of servicing and preventative observation. Now its 15,500 or 12 months.

Isn't that because the engine oil and its additives degrade over time as well as in use. Same can be said for rubber components in the suspension.

Just found another pet hate....

The really stupid antiroll bar mounting design on the r129. Its a pair of pressed steel brackets bolted to the main chassis but the mountings flex over time and snap breaking the undertray when they do. ****** awkward to get to as well.

i am deffo starting to get electronic phobia i start to feel my bp go up anytime i start reading about one of my cars automatic features, ie good for me ,better for car maker as i am fairly sure that the same is going to bite me in the arse in the not so distant future .great marketing tho. managing to create a disire for a feature we did not know we needed and one that will have us howling at the benz ,bend over counter . or hrs reading here trying to find a way to wriggle out of an issue that we never had ten yrs ago...... very clever.....

Dont think so, as all my SL500s between 2003 and 2005 specified 15,500 or 2 years as did my 2000 S Class.
I think it was more a move to pay for the crippling warranty claims MB faced when they dropped their quality in 2002. And the resultant crash in their share price!

OK I get the oil thing, but gearboxs "sealed for life", now 4 years ... that has oil?

As for suspension rubbers ... hmm never had one go on all my bought new cars ... they all lasted 3 years??
So an inspection every 2 years seems fine to me ... also do they actually really check them on an A Service? Or do they only checkmthem if there is a clunk noise ;)

I've had Citroens and a Lexus that had the dash permanently illuminated and never had a problem with it... The Lexus 'Optronic' instruments were the best. And the S212 has auto lights.

my point about auto lights is that, in these days of cars having DRLs and having (in towns) better street lighting, its all too easy on a car with normal dials in the cluster (rather than the fancy 'invisible' till they light up jobs like Lexus used to fit to early LS models i experienced) its rather too easy to set off in poor light and not realise the lights aren't switched on on the car as all that tells you is often merely a little green tell-tale which isn't something you are really focussing on when driving, plus on some models, its in an obscure place (like next to the light switch) where the steering wheel or parts of the body (during normal driving) can often obscure the tell-tale light.

My pet hate is the dash board warning that none of the rear seat belts are engaged ... when there's no-one in the back :(

I keep a small piece of Blu-Tack in the car which I use to keep the ticket in place

S210 E320 Cdi - Rust and (did I mention) the rust !
W211 E320 Cdi - 1) Turbo seals leak and need replacing every 1/2 years. 2) Rain water dripping inside as you drive if you have the drivers window open a bit. 3) Turbo needed replacing at only 80,000 mls. 4) Light on passenger visor not working but need to replace the whole visor to fix it - quoted cost £175.00 !

And more....

MB Servicing & schedules -

My Indie specialist tells my engine coolant could do with be changed (its 10 yrs old) but as MB don't schedule its replacement until 15 yrs I have to pay £130.00 on top at my last service to get it done.

My Indie specialist shows me my air filter is pretty dirty etc but MB only schedule a replacement every 4 yrs meaning I have to pay on top to get it changed.

MB "sealed for life" transmissions. Yeah right ! So I have to spend around £200 for an ATF every 40,000 mls or risk beating myself up with regret if the transmission fails.

Never a bottle of any left-over screen wash left in the car after a scheduled service.

My cat could wash a car better than MB's "complimentary service wash".

Really? - I have to pay MB for a new service booklet even though the original is full of their own stamps ?!?

"Your uneven tyre wear may need a full realignment check etc sir" Bargain at over £200 !

Windscreen wipers are hopeless, they judder and skip about the screen instead of sweeping in a majestic manner.

Just thinking about this on our way home this evening. We had travelled along the A146 out of Norwich with the cruise control set at just under 60mph. When we reached our home town I wanted to re-set it at 30mph. As soon as the engage the Cruise control in the 30 mph zone it starts to race off to 60mph before you can make the adjustment. Now unless I am missing something this is pet hate. There maybe should be a better way, 30mph to 60mph, no problem

You're doing it wrong then. You're resuming cruise rather than setting it ..... move the stalk to increase or decrease you set it when you're doing 30mph & it'll set it at 30

Okay, so you brake/slow down to 30 as you enter your home town. Once at the required speed you move the control upwards (not towards you) to set the cruise speed and hey-presto! Job done :)

If you re-engage it yes it remembers the last setting but I normally just engage it as if doing the set from fresh.

So if I remember right pull it towards you and it remembers the last setting but flick it upwards at the speed you want and it uses that speed.

It’s one of those things I do automatically so hope this is right.

If I have misunderstood your point just ignore me.

AH, excellent. I was moving the control arm towards me and of course it was cantering off. Will try what you say for sure next time. Thanks ! :)
