Bit of an odd one this evening after I finally got home, wife says the car is screeching, go and check and something is binding on the off side rear.
Initially I thought it was the backing plate as that had seriously deteriorated and was just catching the disk, but after savaging that and getting any loose bits off it was still there. Long story short I think it's the parking brake spring that's probably gone so isn't releasing fully and the spring itself is probably the things that's screeching. Anyway, my question is does anyone know how to remove the hub and replace the offending article and as I'm there should I replace the brake shield as well, a step by step guide would be fantastic as I'm still very much a novice where mechanics are concerned.

Ah, had a go at the trx screw and hat wouldn't budge earlier

Suspected it was a hub style brake hence me fiddling, anyone know a good way to get this Tory screw out or shall I let a mechanic at it as he'll at least be able to replace anything?

Just realised the thread title says parking bake rather than brake, oh it's been a long day stuck in traffic on the A46

If Lostkiwi's idea doesn't work, you can always drill the head off. ;)

Would save you having to drill it if that happens!

Right just to update, tried having a go at this myself but no luck the spring had ripped through the bracket no no chance of it being saved, put stuff back together and backed off the pad and ran it down the road 500yards to the village mechanic, managed to make up a suitable plate and reattach the spring, all working after a couple of hours and £40.
