Mercedes Benz ML 270 cdi Auto W163 2002
I am somewhat puzzled, that majority of Forums that I have come across, seem to deal with every type of Mercedes except mine......Mercedes ML 270 cdi Auto 2002 W163 Model.....WHY ????
And yet you see these (ML 270 cdi) on the roads in their hundreds !!!
When I first purchased mine, I took it under advise that the ML 270 are indestructible, and also the best, in the Mercedes range......I am now assuming that they must be, because, you never see a lot of them on the forums, and thereby you have difficulty getting much information on them or even how to completely repair anything on them.
If I am wrong in any way, then please forgive me, but, or maybe, or perhaps......If it was possible to have a section solely for individual models like the ML range, and then this would be, further sectioned to individual models like 270 cdi etc
If it could be done throughout the whole of the Mercedes range in this way, it would be simply a phenomenal achievement by the Mercedes Benz Owners Club........could this be possible ?
Hmmm.......wishful thinking perhaps ???

I can see your reasoning in having "sectors" for different models. I wonder though if it would be beneficial?, I'm thinking that owners with each specific model would be attracted to their section and maybe not interested so much in other particular cars. Therefore would we lose valuable input from owners that have had several types previously.
I have only owned the one Mercedes and so I am naturally drawn to posted problems with CLK's,however reading posts in the "general" section I get a better understanding of other MB cars that may come my way in the future.
Your assumption may well be correct in that they ML270's are relatively trouble free ( I don't know)but I hope for you it carries on that way.
Just my thoughts :)

It was always rejected on here because so many of the technical solutions are common across models. Forums always attract problems so perhaps the lack of posts on the ML270 is indicative of the lack of issues with it.

All of the above are correct.
I was a member and moderator on a Land rover forum for several years. We had sections for Defenders, Range Rovers, Discovery and Military.
As mentioned people did focus solely on their model and would rarely venture to other areas even though frequently the answer was already in another section.
The discovery owners further requested sub sections for MK1, MK2 etc and information became further diluted.

There is a lot of component commonality across models with Mercedes. It could be argued there is greater commonality by age than there is by model!

For example the 270 engine was used in C, E, CLS, ML and various commercial variants. The 320cdi is used in C, E, CL, S, ML ranges. The 722.6 transmission is used in C, E, CLK, SLK, CL, ML, SL, S models. Compartmentalisation of issues by model would make issues and fixes less visible as people concentrate on their own models.
For models with few issues that section of the forum would be a ghost town with few visitors and hence few answers to issues.

There is a live thread on a W163 ML270 CDi right now as it happens.

Huh, no recognition for the humble Vito then,
that's just not PC. Vanist.

Yes that totally agree with the way the forum is set up there are many generic problems across all models so the blanket approach works well

Just as well the first gen of the ML has got a horrific reputation for reliability then.

That's certainly my impression. I'd have said W163 issues crop up quite a bit - perhaps I'm wrong?

2005 CL500.
On forums with subsections the subsections quite literally die the older the model is because only those people with a certain model go there.

The US forums do this and the W220 and W215 sections are dead.

On here though you will get views from everybody and common faults/issues will be addressed by all.

Think of forum supporters...how can they help if they have to trawl through individual sections.

And another thing...what's with all the bold type?

I too prefer the forum divided by technologies, not models.

For instance I've found out far more about my specific 170bhp 646EVO engine from posts about it in an E rather than a C, as it wasn't in the W204 for that long.
