Thank you, the more evidence, the better.
At least you know what to look for when you take the top off next time. That step may be tiny but it's on a hardened face, it takes 10's of thousands of miles to form.

I still have it sitting outside my mates garage taken apart so its all still visible, I'll try and get a proper look tomorrow.

Look at the chain as well, highly polished surfaces are signs of wear. There should be no movement between the links on a new chain either, yours looks like it's sloppy.

Heres a photo that shows the top of the chain a little better -

i will research .or make my own ,i only expect to use it once.
I bought a very, very cheap riviter of EBay which was next to useless. But it would make a reasonable base for something that could be useful. I also thought I'm only going to use it once, unfortunately it wasn't even good enough for that.

I'll dig it out and run through what went wrong with it tomorrow.

I'm just going over the car checking all the new parts, can anyone confirm where the tensioner is on the cgi, do you need to remove the alternator to get to it?

There's always a procedure with these things, on mine you have to set the crank at 20deg after top dead centre. If you don't then the exhaust cam cam flick round and skip a tooth when you pull the tensioner out. You need to be careful. You need to consult WIS on the procedure.

Finding it would be a start!! Is there anywhere I can get a copy of WIS that you know of?

Talking to the guy who makes the uprated gears today, he has told me that he uses old gears and replaces the shaft area with a new steel part as this is the area that wears on the turbo engine.

This was the riviter I bought off EBay, I think I paid £11.
The basic frame was Ok, it was the rest of it that was a problem.

Three punches and one riviter. The two left punches wouldn't even go into the frame, that's why the ends have been ground. There clearly marked 2.2mm 2.9mm and 3.8mm.

The 2.2mm was 2.1mm. The 2.9mm was 2.3mm. The 3.8mm I didn't use. I'm not sure what the metal was but it felt like it had a high plastercine content. Soft as xxxx.

The riviting pin wasn't concentric on the end. As you tried to put any pressure on it, it just rotated off the pin your trying to rivit.

Other bits just fell apart.

I can and I will make new pins out of quality hardening steel. Then we should have a serviceable peace of kit. But straight out of the box.....Rubbish.

Trying to get hold of the cam chain/gears procedure on WIS but I have a mac and it's proving difficult. Anyone know where I could get some joy?

Just for something to do. This is what a new cam chain looks like.

Silver.

Sort of sticks out a bit doesn't it.
