We've had the 2007 CLK 220CDI auto for a few months now and it impresses in all aspects for our use but if it were easily achieved a little more power would not go amiss. I've looked at the power to weight of other similar cars we've owned and reckon taking it up to 175-180BHP with an associated torque increase would do the trick.

I've searched dozens of pages in the tuning forum and not found one so far where the owner of a similar engine car has undertaken this and reported on the results.

My queries are....

Is a remap possible on our engine type?

Is up to 180bhp possible/sensible?

Does the remap alter any of the auto gearchange parameters?

Is our 5spd autobox fitted to any higher powered models?

Most important any real life experience of this engine type after a remap?

BTW we're close to Peterborough so the nearest place to us I've noticed in forum posts that others seem to approve of is GAD at Burnham.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Talk to GAD tuning or MSL. A quick check suggests an extra 35hp.
The 5 speed in your car is a 722.6 as used in almost all MBs of that era. Externally and design wise they are all the same but internally there are a lot of differences. The specific gearbox model would be need to know what your gearbox is used in (this is the full gearbox model number).
The 722.6 family is used right the way from C180 petrol right up to SL600 (6 litre V12 with twin turbos). Its the internal differences determine the power handling capabilities.

Had my old w203 220cdi remapped to 180bhp

It was a 6 speed manual though

Handled the map no problem.

That w203 turned into a flying machine, the missus current w203 220cdi is a completely different car with the auto.

You mean as in unmapped auto vs mapped manual?

If I can get evidence our autobox will handle it I think we'll get the mapping done in a few months.

Next thing is how do we find out the specific autobox fitted to our CLK?

Yes

Mapped manual was a hoot, pulled very well

Missus unmapped auto seems very lazy in comparrison. The 6 speed manual was also very good on fuel 55mpg on a run compared to around 45-50

There was a thread some time ago where the 220CDi auto box was rated at not much more than it put out as standard.

Exactly my point (though perhaps not well made).
Although all MBs of a certain age use a 722.6 not all 722.6 boxes are the same. Torque capacity varies from 300Nm to 1000Nm depending which variant of the 722.6 family it is.

Seems we have the 722699 06 693999 box rated to 330nm so a remap looking unwise.
