Oh... One final thing... Remove as even an amount from each piston as possible to maintain equal piston weights and cylinder volumes.

Thanks. I'll get a dremel and take my time being as careful as I can. Will attempt to grind down the other cracked parts and hope for the best.
I'll check that tomorow and fingers crossed they all are at the same height and build will commence as soon as I can!

Checked the head yesterday, exhaust valves are good and not leaking. All intake valves are out and slightly bent but guides are fine. Ordered the dremel and a set of small burrs.

Just need to lightly clean all the mating surfaces and sort out those pistons and I'm good to go. All parts needed with postage come to £515.

Had another look at the chipped piston and managed to get a better photo, the chip goes further down than i first thought, i still don't think the ring is visible. Still worth a shot at giving it a go?

Absolutely.

Am I imagining things or is there a small thin disc edge on in the gap between piston and cylinder wall?

:) Sweet, managed to pry off another bit of piston from cylinder 3 which came off nice and cleanly. The other cracks didnt want to budge so will grind them down when my dremel arrives. I'll get the parts on order and when I get a free day hopefully it will be up and running. Hopefully the gamble will pay off, if it doesnt at least I gave it a shot.

Im not 100% sure. You can see the rings on all the pistons when looking down with a light.

Are you talking about this, if so I think it's a reflection.

That's it. Looks too regular for a reflection but good if it is :)

It might not be but it doesn't move or isn't loose as ive run some feeler gauges around the piston and nothing is loose, So really not sure.
Brightend the picture up. Before I refit the head im going to use an air blower around all the pistons just in case anything has got down between. What is the best thing you use on the block to clean up the surface. I used 2500 grit wet and dry with wd40 on the head but it took ages.

This picture is a bit clearer, don't know what it is, maybe a tiny peice of ring showing. What signs should i look out for when its up and running relating to piston or ring damage?

Don't think that piston ring - shapes all wrong and it's way too thin.
No idea what it is.
In terms of what to look for:
Excessive blue smoke
Misfire
Knocking noises

I've got rid of all the loose chips and try to smooth them as best I could which was actually really tricky and didn't want to remove to much. What do you think?
