My first post as a new member.

My 350 SL (2003, 35K from new) has been faultless for years - until today.

A strange fault with the PSE unit means that it overruns constantly until the ignition is switched off. The vario roof operates as though it was new as does the central locking system with soft close doors
and boot lid.

How can I stop the PSE from over running ?

Will this fault cause harm to the PSE unit ? Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Cheers !

2 Things would cause this.

1 an air leak, although the pump would time out eventually and not work again on that circuit, until you reset the fault or remove/reconnect the battery.
2, water inside the pse pump, messing with the electronics. Check under the roof pump in the boot and ensure its dry, check around the foam etc.

Water is quite likely as the standard seals on these are pretty useless - there’s a great DIY on seal modification on here

Impressed with rapid response.

Apart from the PSE overrunning, the vario roof and central locking are functioning perfectly.

There is no evidence of water in the boot and all connections are free of corrosion.

I am really puzzled but need a specialist Mercedes electrician in North Cambridgeshire.

Many thanks.

Thank you for your guidance. Would you have a link for the DIY seal ?
Cheers.

Try taking it to Welwyn Mercs. They have an excellent reputation.

FWIW and before you spend any money.

SWMBO's 2007 SL350 does the same as you describe - every 15-20 secs pump runs and lock clicks; but only if the convenience battery is low!

Try a couple of days with a CTEK or at least 12 hrs with a big old charger and then listen again - my guess is it will stop as soon as charging begins :D
