I have searched a lot of forums to try and ascertain my fault I have on an A140 , 2004.
Now I m not sure if the light has been intermittent before I removed the strut for a top mount replace but the steering geometry was upset but put back to where it was before and now turning the steering to full lock clockwise which is fine and then left , it triggers the light to reappear. The tracking upset by the removal of the strut and subsequently triggering the esp to come on.

I haven't checked the tracking as yet. So maybe the that upsets
The ESP light

Yes, sounds like you have a dodgy steering angle sensor.

Easy sort ? Steering wheel off?
Not too bad usual. Airbag off, big nut in middle off, steering wheel off, then module comes out.

I would get the the codes read before changing parts at least.

And before throwing bits at it, have you had the tracking reset?
You will probably end up doing this anyway, as you suspect it might be out after your work, so why not do it first?

Tried the lock to lock three times and drive straight to no avail.

As the steering is straight at the moment I will check tracking , that can't be that far out to pick up the sensor calculation, however will check tomorrow , my diagnostic tells me at steering wheel sitting straight the angle sensor says 2.5 degrees so not far out.

I think, but not sure i was told that it could only be 0.5 to 0.75 degrees out, other wise would throw up a code. The tracking has to be done with the steering wheel in the direct ahead.
