The channel into which the tailgate closes into is fitted with a number of rubberised plastic trim covers. The trim covers around the tailgate hinges in my 10 year old W204 estate are beginning to perish due to damage by sunlight. My local MB dealership are very slow in trying to identify the parts and to advise me of the part numbers. Could anybody please advise me what the function of these parts is and how I might better describe them. I attach some photographs which hopefully will clarify things. I have marked the trim covers with yellow tape crosses.

They are held in place by plastic screws/rivets. How are these best removed ?

The dealership have these photos but I am getting no response even though I still have my car serviced there ! I am beginning to loose faith in them.

With thanks
Chris

IIRC the part numbers are on the back of them, it is easy to remove them, I did all the trim round my tailgate last summer as it was filthy

Thank you for your reply. Can you remember if the plastic rivets just pull out and if so can they be reused ?

Also I inadvertently posted this message twice but so far I have not seen a method of deleting one of them ? Do you know if it is possible to delete a post or do the moderators have to do it ?

Thanks

Yes they do, just be careful when removing and take the centre pin out first before removing the outer bit.

I cleaned so much debris out when I did mine, it is an idea to do the ones half way down the side of the tailgate attached to the body as well, they will be full of dirt

Thanks again. I have got out of the habit of working on cars and I am now encouraged to fix them myself having heard that you have already tackled the job.

Thanks to your help I have taken all four trims out and cleaned away the debris behind them. Did it without damage to the plugs.
The part numbers for the upper channel trims just in case anybodyelse wishes to exchange them are as follows

left hand side 204 693 1733
right hand side 204 693 1833.

Thanks again
Chris

I have just emailed the parts numbers to Mercedes Benz of Skipton and they have come back with a price, about £15 each +VAT. They had not been replying to the emails in which I sent them photographs of the parts so in todays email I stated that I was beginning to doubt that they had received them. They replied within about 10 minutes !

I am 45miles away from Skipton so its not that easy to call in and ask. MB in Ulverstone is also about 45 miles away. MB Preston and Blackpool are slightly nearer but in the middle of nowhere so I tend not to use them and when I do venture there have never found a salesman to talk to.

Try Grangemouth MB, they give good forum discounts and post for £5

IIRC MB Newcastle sell on eBay and offer good prices, maybe another one worth checking.

Parts arrived this morning from Grangemouth and will get fitted tomorrow. I will use Grangemouth again if I need to ! (Keep toying with the idea of a W205 estate.) Thanks for your help everyone.
