So Friday I got food poisoning which is still with me and as I reversed into a parking space at the doctors today, the car starts shuddering and I thought would stall.

its Ok at 1500 revs but at idle its pretty nasty and I have codes

0633
ML ON Misfire cyl 1 damages 3 way cat (P0301)

0629
ML ON Misfiring (P0300)

on the internet can't see these codes mean much, some saying coil pack, but wayne gates just said that's a rare one on the 5.5 v8, others saying injector and WG say that's a possibility. The way it as low revs not keen on a 20 mile trip to take it in and still rather ill so not happing this week.

Anyone got any ideas please?

First thing I would do is pull the plug and check for obvious signs of arcing or issues with the connection to the coil pack. Start with the basics.

I struggle with that one too.

It should be front cylinder, on the offside (drivers side headlight)

so after cleaning and phaffing about coil pack #1 dead (now on cyl 5)

plugs look OK on all 3 cyl I checked
as far as I can see on the same 3, top of pistons all the same a bit dirty and blackish
slapped plug from #1 to #2 and coil pack from #1 to #5

misfire now on 5, interesting as WG didn't think they play up much.

in however you are meant to measure ohms.... with meter on "20" checked the 4 pins, could only get continuity on 2 (on either coil pack)
#1 7.95 (the dead one)
#5 7.70

cleared codes fired it up took a smidgen to misfire, seemed less bad, EML came on checked codes fault as above now on #5

so I need a
ZS0012
A000 150 27 80
Delphi 190005267
06T249

Continuity checks at the connector only look at the primary windings. If the fault is in the secondary windings or is a weak insulator you won't see anything.

As per lostkiwi it only gives you part of the picture. If they are generally reliable (as per WG) I would buy a second hand one for £15.

Looks like the same code to me? Last number of P030X is the cylinder number.

so my 2 second-hand coil packs rocked up. measured the resistance as per the first round and couldn't get anything conclusive

before

#1 was 7.95 (the dead one) now its at #5 with reading when completely cold of 8.13
#5 was 7.70 (a good one, lower than anything else I've measured including the broken one ???)
#6 measured for first time cold 8.15

the two new ones I got 8.30 and the other was 8.41.... but my meter was being odd and it took 10 mins before any pack gave me a reading at all !!!! so I came to conclusion the kit/method I'm using isn't helping anything,

bolted on the two later packs that claim to have come of a C350 to cylinders #5 and #6 kept the orig from 6 in the boot as a spare... fired it up all normal and drives normal, will double check if anything shows up, but I expect not as cleared it all last week and hadn't restarted since
