Hi Guys,

Can I have some clues as to what a groaning noise from my braking system is.
It occurs when first starting and at other times when the brakes are used such as slowing down at roundabouts.
Cheers
Robbie

Probably worn pads. Get it seen to ASAP.

The pads were changed a few days ago and the noise starts as the brake pedal is touched before the car moves. Where I park is tight for space so little chance of driving at any speed. I must admit it seems like an electrical issue rather than mechanical.
Thanks for your response though.

Thanks John, the issue is that the noise starts when stationary as a slow groaning noise. Discs are in good condition. The noise seems to be from the braking system and as I had an ABS sensor replaced 10 days ago I wondered whether the ABS unit itself has some sort of pump/reservoir that is the root cause of the noise.
Whatever it is I just hope it's not another expense...
Cheers
Rbbie

IF its a 2004 E class its a W211
W211 has SBC brakes that operatre on a brake by wire system.
The groaning noise is the pump priming the system, it will do this when you first unlock the car, open the door, or repeatedly press the brake pedal .

Could this not simply be new pads bedding in. Could be noticable now if the new pads are a different brand from what they replaced.

Funny enough I forgot too even though I've been it all day and it's driven me nuts!

Check the tyres. We had this... groaning grumbling noise turned out to be worn rubber.

Hi Alexander, my question is whether it's a problem or something I have to put up with? I guessed it was something like you mention but needed confirmation.
Should I go back to the garage or leave it as everything else on the car works fine?
Thanks for your response which hit the spot!

Hello!

Not a problem, they all do that to varying degrees.
