I just acquired my new E220 two weeks ago, it's standard SE and was reading about the Mercedes ME. will this adaptor work in the standard SE version?

Has anyone used it with standard SE E220?

I have enough Data bundle with my phone so data usage is not an issue :)

An old B-Class.
Go online and try to register your car at Mercedes me (you will need your VIN). Based on your VIN, the program will tell you if you car is equipped or not. It is built in in some of the new cars.

Just registered on the Mercedes Me website, and it trying to flog me this.

Is it worth having? Bear in mind that I have zero interest in coolshinybluetoothwifitoy stuff for its own sake - does the thing do anything of genuine practical use, or is it all just "Ooh - look at the coolshinybluetoothwifitoy stuff I can do on my phone"?

Not bad for logging trips ( handy if you claim business miles sometimes), knowing remotely how much fuel and range, battery state, when next service due etc...

Say I did decide to have one, is buying one off fleaBay and plugging it in a viable alternative to paying MB to do it for me? It is literally plug-and-play? (yes I know I need the app too)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-Ne...127850&hash=item2a8ec278ed:g:js0AAOSwICpZ-zGB

I've not bothered to get a price from MB, but even so I feel confident in saying it would be more than £25...
I paid £40 a year ago and it was set up for me FOC but I’ve also heard others on this very forum had been supplied free...

Just reading a review on eBay, while searching for the adapter. is it free ?

This is FREE at most UK Mercedes dealers. And you have to visit MB to activate it. So why pay for it?

I bought one on eBay, and when I found I would have to get it activated by MB themselves, AND that this is FREE from most Mercedes dealers, I returned it unused two days later. Why pay for it? I read that if you go o to most Merc dealerships and they supply, install it and activate it free, and that was true.
In any case, it looks like it is not very useful on pre-2014 cars. Very limited benefits and a bit of an 'iffy' connection with my iPhone. Briliant if you have a very recent car with all of the facilities built-into the car, but this plug-in adaptor has really limited use with 2009-2013 cars.
The other thing is that Mercedes apparently receives all of your data on their servers.
From their point of view, they get to know the intimate details of your servicing needs, so they can call you in. Makes commercial sense for them. Also mileage, speeds, dates, locations, etc., so the data includes all of your journeys. How long before the insurance companies know too!
So I decided to get mine free from my local MB dealer. But I really don't know whether I'll keep it in the car, now I know how little benefit it will give me. But it did make me drool when I went to the MB place and saw how much things had moved on. A veritable jewellery store!

Had my 212 serviced yesterday and they gave me a free Mercedes Me Adaptor, but as I got back after 5pm all the workshop staff had gone, so they couldn't set it up.

I've plugged it in to the OBD socket, downloaded the App and registered, and added my car by its VIN, connected to the adapter by bluetooth, but its not connecting the car to the App.

I assume they need to authorise my account or something. Why they couldn't have already done that without me having to revisit them I don't know.

Anyone an expert on these?

No expert but yes, they have to authorise it (MB)- so you’ll need to go back unfortunately I think unless someone knows different. Even my MB service team principal had a few issues getting it to work, but its all good now

Asked at my dealer a month ago and they wanted £50 so bought it on eBay for £25. Did all the registering on-line but the dealer had to set it up as something beyond my control had gone wrong. Not really worth it IMHO and it drains my phone battery rapidly if it stays connected to the app but it doesn't even do that very well and I have to re-connect it every few days!!!
