Probably a late Volvo C70, I owned one before. Underwhelming engine and dated (but plush) interior, but the roof mechanism is a work of art to watch (if not terrifying in terms of bills potential) - they're a well put together car. The latest Volvo Estates are quite smart as well.

i had a 2.5 five series b m w with 80,000 on the clock, until some doughnut of a young lady caved in the rear offside door and wing insurance wrote it off, i should have bought it back and chased around the breaker yards for what was required. to say i did not think quick enough is an under statement,it was a great motor.

I once saw an Aston Martin DB5 (or possibly 6) for sale in Bristol, reg No. 73 FLW. It was fire-engine red and had been concours winner 3 times. It looked perfect. At the time, my Datsun 260Z was worth £3,750. I hummed and haad and eventually explained to myself that I needed a car I could drive everyday. The dealer wanted £5,000 for it.

If I can't have a Mercedes, can I please have a time machine and go back and buy that beauty. I should have sold my soul to get the £1250.00 and brushed off the sensible self who gave me a bum steer. That, for me, was the one that got away.

I bought a Mercedes W163 as our old Landrover Discovery TD5 got attacked by the Tin Worm, and had other issues. If i could have found a low mileage TD5, i would have stayed with them, this is only because the wife tows her horses about, and it was great at doing that.
The Mercedes is also very good at towing, but i feel its just a bit "fragile" sometimes. Oh well time will tell.
I liked my old TD5, last of the "i can work on it" Discoveries

A bit off topic. I've had many marques and in recent years had three Italian cars and unlike one is lead to believe they're aren't always broke. That said my CLK has 140k on (most miles on any car I have ever owned) and apart from the A/C having a leak that the garage couldn't find (I bet a specialist A/C tech could), a very slight (I mean not really noticeable unless you look very closely) bubble on one rear arch and three droplinks that need replacing (this weekend or soon) it's ****** brilliant.
Folk say MB went off a bit early noughties, well if this is off good must be amazing. I've had oldish Audis and VW's (never owned a BMW to compare but my daughter has had two) but I think BMW (from my daughter's experience) and MB are streets ahead of the VAG.

So currently I'm an MB fan. I currently own my 2004 CLK, 1997 Alfa Spider Twin Spark which has been off the road for almost a year but all back now and minus A/C (which I have no luck with on cars) and a 2001 Ferrari 360 which is perfect and everything (including A/C) works. I love the 360, it's my third Ferrari and the best yet by a country mile.
Anyway I think the Alfa's days are numbered with me as I fancy a change. I have my eye on a 2003 SL500 of which is a friend's car and almost perfect. Plan is late this year to swap the Spider for the SL500.

Last of all the CLK is old, it has been 24 years since I last bought myself a brand new car and I'm seriously thinking about a new poverty spec A-Class petrol. I'll probably go ask elsewhere (which is the best section as unlike most forums there is no 'model' sections?) about what to look out for. My only worry is the crap Renault engine used in them.. or is it?

So by the end of 2018 we will be a 2 MB and one Ferrari household I hope.

PS I might be tempted for a none brand new A45 or perhaps a C-class. It just has to be petrol I think, I'm not a diesel fan.

Back on topic.

I would only have an Alfa Giulia, but maybe I said that some pages back.

I would choose a C class over the A class if I were you, with your propensity for fast cars maybe a C63??

Mercedes have already sorted it out for me as the Mercedes now is now a shadow of its former self.

I like the build of some Lexus but the designs are off putting.

The Giulia is a handsome vehicle but you cannot escape the nagging quality history, perhaps they should come with a five year warranty to build confidence.

Probably look at Audi, I did toss up picking up an A4 or an A6, but after a good look round I find them a little boring. But it could be something that I could live with. No longer a big BMW fan, but wouldn't turn down an M car if it was given to me. I cannot think of a standard everyday car that I would be passionate about driving?

Um, we have a 3 series which is very capable. The answer to the question would be M5. Or M6 ? Ferrari ? The list is very long. A new shape SL63 would be nice.

M3 yes, M5 definitely, M4 ? There’s something strange about the 4 series. What is it for exactly ?
Replaced the M3 coupe and convertibles to give it a differential I guess and identity. The lines look good compared to a 5 series and I’ve never bothered with the 3....and those fugly ‘GT’ models with the ridiculous halfords add on badges just annoy the hell out of me

Wasn't the GT voted worse looking Beemer? I find them a really odd shape and I'm not sure of the point? They almost have that X5 thing going. Someone I know has a 520 GT.
