My AC auto turned off three times this morning. I tried it with the EC mode on but it still turned off.
The air conditioning seems to be cooling normally and continues to cool in manual mode.
Just to be annoying it is now OK. Any ideas?

As it seems to be cooling I assumed that it will have adequate gas. However I have just checked my spreadsheet and it was re-gassed in May 2011 about 63,000 miles ago so it might not hurt to have it redone.
Are we still a bit down on the KwikFit service for aircon as I remember some years ago many people were? It is £60. I haven't yet found a local independant I know. I have been going up to Steve at Avantgarde. Luckily things do't go wrong very often

Mine seems to need done every year!
Personally don’t have an issue with Kwik fit but others do, that said my local MB did mine for £50 a couple of weeks ago and threw in a health check which let me have a video of underneath the car which is useful !
Edit: wait a minute so yours was last serviced 7 years ago ?

Low refrigerant levels?

As John says ..
It goes off when not enough gas ..

And yes 7 years ago is maybe 5 too long for a regass ....

You can always have a go yourself ..plenty of YouTube videos on it ...

Indeed Gordon- the fluid which is left is probably not much so when it circulates out of sensor range it will cut the AC off...wish I could even get 2 years! (Which is MB’s schedule )

Haven’t touched mine for 3 tbh but I’m getting it checked before this 3 month heatwave kicks in ... it’s ok but I suspect could be better...

The current gas is being phased out due to greenhouse gas regs so has a massive tariff applied pushing the price up.
If you can get an offer similar to the recent Groupon ATS deal then it is actually less cost than doing it yourself and you have the added benefit that if your system is leaking you have the option of walking away without any costs.

I did mine recently myself but it will probably be the last time.

Groupon offer - https://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/ats-euromaster-ltd-8

@bc100 - Do you have a MB diagnostic? You can see the AC system pressure using the live data function of an i980 for example. Mine would remain active with 1 bar of pressure but this should be around 12-14 bar which it is now.

Yes 7 years. It does work though. Perhaps if we have a decent summer it may struggle.

The man at Mercedes Exeter was a bit surprised as well! Anyway I have booked in next week but it is £69 and an extra £30 if I want the bacterial purge and engine clean out as well. I may not bother with that. They also do a value service for £139. Has anyone done this? I will have to go off and check what extras I actually need on top of the oil and filter change plus safety checks and car wash they do.

I don't have any diagnostic capability, perhaps I should, now I'm semi-retired.

Couldn't get the groupon link to work.

The link worked for me when I checked, £29.50 for the regas and £39.50 for the bacterial purge which is a decent deal.
I presume this value service is a 7+ things no frills service (probably no car wash :) ) also won’t renew your mobilo if you have it...maybe these won’t matter to you. Seems reasonable

There's usually an offer on Groupon - I had my AC checked and regassed plus antibacterial service for £30-ish a while back.
You have to register then but a voucher which you use to pay for the job. Because you're registered you will get email offers which of course you can set up a rule to delete or in m case I use a spare account and look at it once in a while and check anything I think may be worthwhile and delete the rest.
