I used the convenience function to open all the windows and the sun roof...partially.

A little while later I looked out to see that the sunroof instead of being half way slid back had...changed to the tilt open position.

Clever innit!

Hmm... that's smart! I still haven't got over the way that if (or when to be more precise (doh!) ) I leave the windows open when locking up, I can just squeeze the zapper to close them.

It's be even better if it worked off rf instead using infrared while stood next to the car. I could lock & close windows and roof of my Omega while stood in my front room.

Whenever you read about starting up, you're always advised to drive off ASAP so the oil-ways aren't washed out etc... but in Canada, clients of ours were offering customers a radio-controlled zapper that would start the car outside the house while leaving the doors and windows locked - to give it time to get warm inside. I saw it demonstrated and mentioned the oil problem and the response was "who cares!". Bearing in mind that it can be minus 40 deg C outside (I've never been so cold the first time I walked out of the airport!) warming up the interior somehow is a good idea!

I thought that was pretty standard there? In the US I've had rental cars with remote start - handy to get the a/c going even a for 30 seconds as you approach the car when it's plus 40C!

Yes starting up to get the AC going would be useful - even here when the sun's been shining long enough. But I've never had one on a rental over the pond. But then I usually take the cheapest/bargain deal I can get because they invariably don't have them and give me a free upgrade heh heh!
- And do I have a natural aversion to parting with money, especially unnecessarily!

I can remember seeing Volvo's idling in the snowy conditions in Sweden in the early mornings back in the '80's with no one inside, thought it strange at the time, now I know why

I though Volvo & Saab use Eberspacher type diesel heaters to either help the coolant come up to temp faster or start via a timer so the car's coolant is up to temp while you're getting ready for work or getting ready to go home. My brother's 7 Series had one .... he'd wondered why the smoke from his wheel arch was off.

It used to be illegal to leave a car running if not inside it, has that changed.

no,

and reading the post directly above I think recent-ish gov tried to introduce (and may have been successful) further environmental laws making illegal even on own property, as were cracking down on motorist trashing the planet just so it was a bit warmer inside the car... it became flavour of the month

there's also an issue about insurance being invalid...
and with car theft...

engine block heaters have been std in cold climates fore more than 50 years...

Couple of things I’ve noticed:
If the sunroof is left open with the car locked and it starts raining the sunroof closes itself.
If any of the widows and/or sunroof are open, holding the recirculating button closes all of them at the same time. Holding the recirculating button again puts them all back to their original positions.

I don't have rain sensors so probably wouldn't close mine when raining,
the recirc button worked well with the key in though, thanks.
