Hi every body,I have a 2008 s-class w221 with 150000 mils.
Recently I have removed M.A.F. sensors and cleaned, replaced air filters, replaced fuel filter, I did this to stop juddering at 30/40 mph also juddering when pulling up hill------what else can I do?.
Also changed oil seals at turbo (both Orange ones)and still have oil leak, is there a good way to stop this oil leak and how much oil should come through pipe to turbo? I hope some one can help as there is not much about s_class on forums, meny thanks.

I would have thought juddering may be something gearbox oil level related , when was the gearbox last oil changed ( I wouldn't worry about this before you have the codes read though ) . Gearbox oil changes are recommended every 40k miles .
The positive crankcase ventilation valve could be worth checking depending on how much oil is passing through . This is the pipe that comes into the smaller of the 2 orange seals that you have replaced . Neither of these two orange seals should leak if they have just been replaced , they would last at least a year or so if they are fitted correctly . I have fashioned a half salmon tin to sit under the large orange seal to let me know when mine is leaking , but I have also added a "catch tank" in between the pcv and the turbo to try and interrupt the oil going into the turbo .
If you have the om642 engine the oil seals can be prone to leaking down the back of the engine .
All this adds up to needing to find a good Merc Indy who knows these cars .

Hi wighty and john, thanks for your interest in my blog.
Had gearbox oil and filter done in 2016, only done 9000mils since then.
What does crankcase ventilation valve do and how much oil should go through pipe to turbo and do new s- class have same set up.
Will post again after code read on Monday, thanks again.

The crankcase ventilation is a pressure relief valve that lets the water/fuel/oil out which have bypassed the piston rings into the top of the engine ?? I can't give anything as to how much of this sludge it should let through , but it is this sludge that clogs the inlet manifolds eventually . Hopefully someone else will tidy up my explanation :D

Hi, thanks for your reply to my last post, went to auto garage yesterday for diagnostics thing as advised in first reply, I am glad I did because when mechanic put diagnostic thing on car and read codes there were dozens some were in red lettering.
But after reading them and because car had no lights on dash he said the best thing to do would be to wipe codes away and run car for sometime and then take car back for a new code reading, I agreed with him as some codes my have been there for a longtime. One of the codes said mass air flow sensors faulty.

So after wiping codes away I did mention that I had changed air filters and cleaned the mass airflow sensors so he put diagnostic thing on again and guess what? No codes---yippy. I still have oil leak at the dreaded turbo air inlet (the Orange seals) and the crankcase ventilation pipe, which I changed a month or so ago(could this be oil thats built up over a long time)there is oil coming through engine cover slots at the back on engine could this mean I have oil leak some were else? or is it same leak, thanks again.

Hi every body, I hope you are o.k.
Continuing with juddering sarga, had all codes cleared a while ago, put on diagnostic thing on Friday as glow plug light comes on again after engine as started(stays on for about 25 seconds than go of.
Diagnostic thing says 5 glow plug faulty so I have ordered a full set( as I have to remove turbo air intake to access 5 glow plug) .
I have not seen any oil on drive since I changed air filters, and put seals on good this time but as I am removing air intake pipe to change glow plugs, is it worth removing intake manifolds etc to clean any oil away and to check linkage etc, etc.
Is there anything else I should do as well?.
P.S. should engine be hot to change glow plugs. Thanks for your help.

I think you should get car checked at a proper merc Indy.

It’s a W221. Play with it like a toy it will react the same.

Yes - engine coolant. Both auto fluid and engine coolant come together in one form of "cooler". They have been known to leak and contaminate the auto fluid. This causes the clutches to fur up and judder on light acceleration.

Hi oigle, and every one who reads this post.
Booked car in for gearbox check with a gearbox specialist on Monday, told him what was happening with car, went I went back to pick car up mechanic said it was the inlet port motor faulty.
So I decided to take of turbo ect to get to port motor, I got some parts of than I pack up for day.
Next day I wanted to fined if it was nessersary to remove turbo ect, so I phoned another garage to get a quote for replacing intake motor and I got a quote of £422.00 which does not sound a lot for all the work involved( quote was for Labour and parts) but said when he got to remove turbo ect he may find linkage worn and port flaps sized, which more expensive.
So I phoned another garage for a quote and when I told him what was up with car he said he did not think it was the intake port motor( what's happening ?)so I am talking car to him next week.
I will let you know what happens next week.

std fix for this is a new manifold.... the 6 hours to clean it costs more than the part.... and if something broken (flap or linkage there's no spare just a new manifold)

correct method:

manifold 500
gaskets and bits 100
new swirl flap motor 95
redo the seals on the engine oil cooler whilst apart 30
labour 9 to 12 hrs depending how much agro from the snapped turbo bolts

quick bodge:

but breaks a new swirl flap motor within 3 months (do with most in situ) 300 (incl 95 for the part)

even quicker fix:

u put a 9p resistor on the two centre pins of the swirl flap motor and carry on with a bit more midrange go than a std car
