So, beware all if you have a non claim and your not at fault accident your premiums will sky rocket as we have just discovered!!! £250 more on top of the already paid extorsional amount. This is our punishment for having an accident!
When queried it is based now on your driving history, not whether you have had a claim.
Be sure to add this into your valuation if your or when you have a car written off.
Rant over

It is sadly a “standard” of the insurance industry....

Your risk is allegedly greater as you have ‘been involved in an accident’ utter codswallop of course, but they have to pay for their bonuses somehow....

Yes you certainly did Alistair, really gets my goat up, especially when our insurance said it wont effect our premiums, though they have said oops our mistake so we'll deduct £30 off

That is interesting, I had two non fault claims within a couple of years about 2011 and neither had any effect on my premium. One was for just over £2000, the cost of a slashed soft top and the other for just over £1000 was for a crumpled door. :(

I did however change the Insurer in each case on renewal so it is a difficult one to assess. What I can say is that the subsequent years premium certainly didn't reflect a non fault claim. :)

But the OP said he didn't even make a claim.

But what I am saying that may not always be the case. Certainly be mindful of good advise

When we say we've changed insurer, I'm now guessing my insurance will sky rocket too, it's with the same one as my misses, hmmm multi car. Think supermarket site is on the cards.......

I have a rather perverted view of insurers. They're robbing, thieving barstewards out to screw you at every opportunity. Would be good if an insurer out there would come clean and honestly explain the rationale (?) they use. I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

ALL insurers are the same ... whatever they're insuring. The dog's insurance was last year was almost £40 a month after setting off at about £15 a month 7 or 8 years ago. We made two claims last year, cruciate ligament and closely followed by cartledge being trimmed (both kind of linked) This year the premium would have been almost £70 a month had we accepted their kind offer ..... When questioned, their reply was 'you've had a claim' o_O

Mine went up after being rear ended, they said it was because I was now "a statistic"

While you are legally required to have insurance ( or any other legal requirement !!! ) you are completely at the mercy of "The Providers"...…….:(:(:( Only hope you have is to shop around. But God help you if you are carrying any "baggage" with you. Each and every bit IS going to cost you. If it's not your age, it's the age of the vehicle ( new and valuable or old and accident prone ( the insurance definition) They have a long long list of justifications for an increase in premiums.

I think grahamcol has it just about right! I remember my BIL talking through clenched teeth about the way of the world in the Middle East when his car was badly shunted while it was parked - he was told that if he hadn't been parked there then the other car would not have been able to hit his - so it seems he was 50% responsible because he existed!

What worries me now is trying to figure out what trick they'll come up with next. Non-fault used to have no impact - a few years ago I was rear-ended in Holland - I informed my insurer but never bothered to make a claim because there was only a tiny scratch on the boot (the other driver's car collapsed at the front!). When I called in to inform them I was told it would not affect my premium - and it didn't.

Obviously those days are gone and nowadays it would be very tempting (but foolish) to "forget" if not making a claim.

Basically, you are free to claim, and they are equally free to make you pay for it !!!! It's all about money, and how to extract the max, while paying out the min. All strictly legal.

I think it's disgraceful. You could be the safest most courteous driver around but get clobbered because an a****ole hits you!
