And...is it accurate?
Matches my Garmin, as far as I can see, but I'll do more tests - with both HUD and Garmin in the frame, so will have three different GPS readings to compare (the front dashcam got GPS too).

I do find Mercedes between 2 & 3 mph overly optimistic in the speed department
Yes! However, my speedo is actually reasonably accurate, as I changed the tyres from 215/40 R18 to 225/40 R18, over two years ago, and really glad I did - better ride quality, and I regard the speed shown as exact, so no subconscious "I can go 3mph faster" factor ;)

An old B-Class.
Wash and polish - noticed a lot of tar so off to get some tar remover tomorrow - I think it is the hot weather softening up the tar on the road ????

Jesus buddy :(

Don't knock 'em just yet Wighty - hugely entertaining to drive! Seems to do the Jekyll & Hyde thing reasonably well too (for a hot hatch). Heck, they'll even honour the warranty for track days too!

Time will tell... o_O

DSG is amazing, full auto is lazy, manual change is electric. i30 will depreciate horribly :eek::eek::eek:

I like DSG JB, had one before. I gather people have been using them like a normal auto in traffic though (basically slipping two clutches), and they're falling over left, right & centre.

Depreciation... Probably, but read a couple items that suggest it won't drop as expected. Parkersburg even reckon it'll sit between Golf & Civic.

I have spent over 40 years in the Motor Trade, I not saying that even I am an expert but that is a bit of a pipe dream !!. That ain't going to happen

Yeah, it's not something I'm banking on! From what I've seen of it though, if they continue along the path they've started, it could be an interesting sub-brand.

We'll see how it goes... it's not finalised yet, could still end up in a Golferoo!

Please don't become a golfist, we will never forgive you

Think Hyundai and Kia are becoming a very formidable contender in the car markets these day, quality that pushes the Germans and reliability that slaps at the heals of the Japanise.

Carl & JB will...! :)

I was pleasantly surprised by it... so much so that there has been considerable deliberation over last few weeks, head saying Golf / M140, but then doing a 180° swerve when calculator comes out.

Anything will have to go a very, very long way to approach Golf levels. It's not that it's so good (it is, technically, very good, but...)... it's that it has such a strong brand and over such a long time that it pretty much writes its own cheque, in a way that few other cars can.

Put it this way, VW don't have to try to sell them. They don't need to incentivise the cars. Anywhere.

David,

you're in the know about these HUD thingies.

Is it possible to get something that can sit on the dash, project an image and link to an OBD2 bluetooth dongle without requiring a smartphone as a link or bridge, do you know?

I used to work for the VAG a few years ago and the Golf had been out for 4 years when I started there, never inspired me and thought they were quite boring cars and the Polo was the bottom of the barrel for everything.
Before working at VAG I was at a Triumph garage and these cars really made an impact on me for life, especially the PI models and of course the TR range and GT6's and have owned a Triumph since 1976.
However move on 40 odd years and the VAG of cars have certainly come along way in their field, and as said before really don't need that much advertising. I think that goes for many makes and models now, they are all becoming top quality in style, comfort and performance, giving all the luxury performance cars a good run for their money.
Food for thought......

One of the members on the ‘other side’ just swopped over his C63 for a Golf R for reasons of sense and economy- seems to like it so far ( only been a few weeks).
Have to say I’ve had 3 golfs in the past and they’re a great package, very hard to class etc. Hard to look past in that sector
That said the i130N does look interesting, it would boil down to one thing for me really- given the 7 year warranty is a big factor- would I keep it 7 years? What would it look like after 7 years and how would I feel about it?
I see loads of 7/10/15 year old Golfs which still have class...

I've a 2002 Mk4 V5, that we've had from nearly new, and is now my daily driver. Love the thing and cannot bring myself to sell it. :D
My '02 Mk.4 1.9 GT TDi PD130 is still sadly lamented and much missed. Sold at 225k and still returning 55-60mpg on a run.

Years ago (2000) I had an Audi S3 which was effectively a Golf in a very fancy frock.
It was meh....good but not great and quite dull if capable.
I'd be very interested to try the I30n. It's refreshingly different, good warranty support, pretty good reviews and looks to be pretty good value. Best of all it's NAG....

A mate of mine had one too. He reckoned point to point it was quicker than his M5.
