When putting key into my 2006 sl350 a buzzer is heard, the display shows ABS followed by ESP, the electric fan comes on at high revs and the starter doesn't engage. After about 45 seconds fan goes off and car will start. Have taken to the garage but this is intermittent and behaved perfectly at the garage. Help please.

No unfortunately the fault comes and goes, when taken to the garage it works perfectly well so no diagnostic checks to source problem.

It should still have a stored error unless it's had three successive starts with no issue (a start being a drive where normal engine temperature is reached and of a reasonable time length).
