Sitting here reading a couple of threads the other day, I saw mention of the SBC "Hold" function. It sounded useful but I could find no mention of it in my Owners Manual so this morning on my commute into town I stopped at a set of lights and gave the brake pedal a quick stab and up popped a message on the dash... SBC [H]. No need to keep my foot on the brake, no creep and it disappeared when I pulled away . Not indispensable and I could probably do the same with the parking brake (although I'm not sure it is powerful enough to prevent the creep) but a simple and effective function that will be very useful on the days I use the car for my daily commute.

I've had the car 4 months and I am still finding clever features

Like you I only found it after spotting a thread, mine seems to be more easily applied, the more I use it too?

Are my absolute must haves for a car (although the clk doesn't have brake hold, it does have "no" roof , and it's really Mrs W's car )

So I no longer need to dry my brakes after going through standing water? As long as its raining.
Who would have thought of this? I think it's great.

Surely the pads are always touching the discs...and drying them?

The old wet brakes thing used to apply to drum brakes where the water would lie in the drum and play havoc with emergency stops if they ever were needed. SBC does this but mainly to ensure that pads are in the optimum position for emergency braking.

Just thought I would re-visit this thread... When I posted back in January, the hold function required a good hard stab on the brake pedal but it has become progressively easier to apply and now only needs the slightest of push on the pedal once the car has come to a stop.

i read somewhere that the sbc drying the discs ,was written out of the software by mb, due to brake pads wearing prematurely .

I've wondered about this as well , I think it doesn't so much become progressively easier to push , but more you develop the exact technique the car requires to activate it .
If I drive my other car for a couple of weeks , I keep messing up the hold feature the first few time I use it .
