I am not really sure which section this should go under, but has anyone got or have used a mobile scissor lift? Are they as good as they seem to be? I am thinking of buying one, so would like any imput, information that you may think helpful.

Sorry I meant a car mobile scissor lift.

Hi,

If you are talking about a ride-on scissor lift type access platform, then yes, they are good - we use them here all the time at the boatyard. Two things to possibly consider though. Depending on type/size they can be a bit difficult on anything other than very smoothe ground and often, a cherry picker can get you much closer than a scissor lift. But I guess it depends on what you are using it for.

We have a number of these. They are quite easy to use but can be a bit unnerving as there is a little play in them which can make them a little unstable. As has been said above they do need even ground for smooth operation.

The important thing to remember is that they do need a 6 monthly LOLER certification which is an HSE requirement and has to be carried out by a competent person and will cost around £100. It's a bit like the MOT on your car and it has to go through a series of checks to confirm it is safe to use. :)

They are good, I've used and hired many of them. Benefits of scissor lifts is that they're a lot more stable than boom arm type MEWP's so you don't need full harnesses to use them. Just don't go climbing on the handrails to reach that extra bit.

Many hire places sell them, although you need to make sure they're well serviced before investing.

Hi again. I think that there has been a bit of confusion as I actually meant a car scissor lift. An example of this would be
Stratus Portable Mid Rise Scissor Lift. Or has anyone tried a
AUTOLift 3000? But even though they show a Mercedes estate on it, it only has a 3000lb max lift. Looks good though. (sorry font went a bit crazy with the cut and paste).

Is this any use?

Hi yes, thank you, good info, but would like to hear from anyone who actually has one. Also how did you put the video in there?

Just copied the link from you tube, ie, address at top of page hold finger on it until ‘select all’ appears, then tap and select ‘copy’, then pop here hold finger in text box till ‘paste’ option appears and select it (iPad)

For Windows you would highlight and click mouse for each option.

I seem to recall @ajlsl600 has one he uses for wintering his CLK. He seemed to rate it when we were talking about it.

Automech do THIS ONE, but it needs an air supply so not very mobile really I suppose.

Any reason that it has to be mobile? The company I linked to have lots of options, I have their AS-7230A which suits my purposes but they do all sorts of variations.

Hi thank you. The reason that it has to be mobile is that I do not have a garage, just a car port.

That looks like a display ramp some of the 4wd dealers use.
A bit restricted for working under a vehicle though.

That was my thought too. To high to lie under, to low to stand under.

I would put up a 2 poster, don't need a garage and don't take up much space and cost is comparatively similar to these scissor lifts?

a new garage here a few years ago started out with one , lasted about 6 months before he swapped it for a 2 poster , the lift gets in the way of certain areas of the car so they limit what they can be used for , ideal for brakes or such like and easy to place in tight areas and of course , they don't lift as high as a 2 poster either

Why don't you need a garage? Don't they need protecting from the elements?

Not really necessary as there is a cover on the electric motors, I have a 2 poster which is outside, been used outside for over 10 years. The motor is attached to the fence inside a water proof box and when I get around to it the power cable will be set underground. Regular grease and it will stand the test of time, though it's not used in freezing conditions ;)
