GLA 45 AMG 03/2015
Hi all,
I’ve had my 2015 GLA45 for a couple of months and loving it. I’m looking at changing the tyres for the winter, and can only come up with Conti’s. I’ve got 235/40/ZR 20’s, and it seems the only thing that comes up on Google are what it’s running at the moment. Anyone tried a different tyre? Wondering if 235/35’s will be ok. Or if any other AMG that runs a similar wheel size.
Any knowledge gratefully received!

Very little choice for that car, IIRC someone else on here went for 245/40

I wouldn't go for 35 profile personally on UK roads - especially for winter tyres.
I'd be inclined to get a second set of smaller wheels I could fit narrower higher profile tyres to.

You could go to a 235/50 R18 on an 8x18" wheel

What tyre and wheel size options are listed inside the fuel filler? The smallest ones listed will work for winter wheels / tyres

Interesting, I never knew that! My car knowledge is atrocious, and slightly embarrassing. If they work I'm generally happy

Fundamentally narrower taller tyres work best for winter as they are less prone to aquaplaning in the wet and can cut down through snow better rather than sitting on top of the snow.
Summer tyres tend to be better in a lower profile wider configuration as tyre wall deformation under load is less.
What's important is the overall diameter of wheel and tyre remains approximately the same.

I've got 20" Toyo's on my ML and they are fantastic. Just standard all-weather tyres but they were mustard in the snow last year. I did some research on them and all the online reviews were positive, and i have to say, I concur with them. I had Conti's on it previously and I didn't think they were all that special. An absolute bargain at £130 per tyre where the Conti's are double that.
