Took off wheel of my 07 e 320 and found these 3 pockets full of dried up dirt which as you can see was causing rust to start , I had to bend a screw driver to dig them out and scrape off excess rust then blew the pockets out with air gun there’s drains in here but once they get wet muck that’s them disabled , I only saw this by luck so if anyone has there wheel off clean out these 3 holes behind the strut . I am rust treating mine now and going to pack the pockets up with good filler so no more muck can gather and will shape them high at the back so water runs straight out. Hope this helps someone out before it rots away on them. Sorry if someone else already posted this I could not find anything , the photo of dirt on the floor came out of these 3 pockets sitting on top of the chassis just behind the strut.

No not as bad as it looks thank goodness. There’s bits of rust and dust stuck to it as I had greased it before I discovered the rust ,
Needs wiped down and redone.

It’s like a treasure hunt only you find rust instead of treasure. Lol
I think those pockets are a design
fault , or are they.

Being the first car for decades I have crawled under. I was very pleasantly surprised to see all the seams had sort of painted mastic on them on the CL500.
Most of it seems to be ally, but useful on the steel bits.
As the mastic is rock solid and either side is sound paintwork I remain optimistic its not rusti g away underneath the mastic LOL :)
I noticed yours didnt have the mastic ... wonder if its like that on all E Classes? Or that one was unlucky.

I think I took everything off all round the entire inner wing , the rusts not as bad as it looks as it’s on heavy metal but the dirt was built up and caked hard as cement , a wire brush won’t
Even scratch it I had to start with a old wood chisel then bent an old screw driver to get down into the well
I have got a good first coat of rust treatment on by hand , if I can tomorrow going to spray in there with fertan then finish with body Schultz

I have had 2 kugas the oldest was 5
Both of them leaked water in the boot
And started to rust from the inside out , I was back and forth to ford like a yo yo but they always failed to fix it
in the end I threw it back and got full
refund , but they should have paid me more for the stress and hassle.

The other one I owned you could hear the insulation foam splash in the back. Needless to say it got a swift shift down the Rd.
