That’s a hell of a price JB!
No brainer as you say.
I’ve started (again) looking but I’m keen to get one with an integrated Speed camera detector built in (for some reason....)

Their prices on the rest of the NextBase range are also good,

I may be tempted to a DAB receiver soon

https://www.nextbase.com/en-gb/in-car-entertainment/dab-adapters/adapt-dab250/

but for this price

That does look pretty good value, I might be tempted myself as I do miss the DAB+ I had in the W213. Not too keen on FM transmitters though, had an original iPod adaptor and was forever having to change the channel on it because of interference. Still it's a good enough price to give it a go.

But how does it update the database of speed cameras? You'd be better off taking out a subscription to PocketGPSWorld and downloading their database onto a SD card, put that in the slot under your Command SATNAV then you'll see and hear the cameras pop up on the SATNAV screen rather than the DashCam screen which is better hidden from the driver's view anyway as it's too distracting.

Not 100% on this technology to be honest . Does the PocketGPSworld system cover just known/reported camera locations or is it real time detection?

For £40 against £500 for the MB unit it is worth a try

Great post. I've also been looking at dash cams. Thanks.

None of the Dash Cams that I've looked at have real time detection. Even Road Angel sell separate devices for Dash Cam and speed camera detection. The Dash Cam detectors all appear to have a subscription service for their camera locations just as PocketGPSWorld does. I use PocketGPSWorld, the advantage over a dash cam speed camera system is that the warnings come on the bigger SATNAV screen which is at eye level and not on a small 3" screen which may well be hidden behind the mirror and the updates are weekly.
A family member has a new Ford which has a system that uses a combination of GPS and a forward facing camera to "read" speed limits and there's even an option to switch on a speed limiter to stop you going over the current limit, he claims this works on variable speed motorways too. I think that's a step too far! :(

I think he's visiting the future... with driver-less cars just around the corner I can see that within five years the do-gooders will be talking up enforced speed control. By that time you may as well have some shut-eye travelling 100 miles on the motorway because it will be so utterly boring. And if you dare to override the enforced limiter and get caught you'll probably be locked away (unless you can afford to use "Mr Loophole" in court!).

I have this on the XC90, as you say it can pretty much completely take over!

Mecedes call it Traffic Sign Assist and Active Speed Limit Assist. Add in Distance Pilot, Active Lane Assist and Blind Spot Assist; switch the sat nav on and the car drives itself. You soon get used to it. The only thing I find is the car brakes later and harsher than with human control. Brilliant bits of tech that almost make driving bearable again. :D:D

So all you do is steer whilst on a long motorway drive? Never driven a tech car before.

That’s exactly what I did with my E Coupe - very easy to fit across the top, behind the A pillar trim, down the door trim and through into the glove box behind the end dash trim. Simples and all wiring hidden.

Technically yes officer. Every 7 miles the dashboard will tell you to hold the steering wheel ;) on a test track motorway of course :D

Exactly right Andy!
When I take the XC90 up North it really does destress the long boring journey. Actually it brakes smoothly.
In Volvo world it’s pilot assist plus and as said before you can even set it to obey the speeds...2 very different cars I have!

Wow, that is impressive. Looks how behind the times I am, and I'm only 44 years old on Sunday! (that's starting to sound old now)
