Not sure on the truth of any of this but one of my x emergency services mates has told me that all average speed cameras on the M1/M25 go live at midnight set at 72mph ?
Take note just in case they are correct

You'ld be suprised how far I'm prepared to travel for a good traffic jam :)

Fortuitously, there in the process of making my "local" M27 into a "smart" motorway so shouldn't need to travel far anytime soon!

In my experience the M1 speed cameras fire when you’re going over 80 with no speed showing on the matrix display. With speed reduction in place they’re set north of the 10%+2. This is my experience and yours may well be different.
Also the first temporary speed restriction when it drops from national isn’t taken into account. Although that is how it was designed how it is managed when it goes into service is something else again...

The only average speed cameras on the M25 that I know of, are around the Dartford crossing/tunnel, where it drops to 60/50 to the bridge.

The gantry cameras have been out of action for a while now
the HADECS cameras on the sides are all active on the M25, all the time.

Pretty much my observation too.

So, once again nothing to do with safety and everything to do with revenue generation.
Problem is it’s difficult to police “inappropriate speed” without a great many traffic police so blanket speed enforcement because speed is the easy answer to accidents. If your car isn’t moving you can’t have an accident...

So why do I keep getting phone calls about 'that accident you had' when our Motorhome was hit by a runaway car where the driver forgot to turn the steering lock off and we were sat in our lounge in the house drinking a nice glass of wine. The MH was parked on the driveway, next to my Z3 that it was pushed into by the impact of the runaway car.

So, 2 cars not moving in real terms, other than being shunted sideways across the drive, neither had drivers in them.

Perhaps we should ask for a speed camera to be mounted outside the local poker game hosts property when they are having a few drinks, in future???

I keep asking to go to court to tell a judge the ambulance chasers want to make me claim falsely, but after all these years they won't take up my 'claim', but still bug the carp out of me with calls.:geek:;)

Problem you have is that his car was moving, if he wasn’t moving then he couldn’t have had an accident that you were the victim of. See all speed is bad

Don't think he realised his car WAS moving :( He was a bit pi55ed to say the least.

All speed is good. We sped across the Atlantic at c535mph for our Xmas holiday. Then gently wafted along at 23Knots into the Bermuda Triangle, where we saw no other vessels (everything disappears in the BT) and got a lovely tan on Xmas Eve. Drifting between various islands in the West Indies at 18Knots. A slow swim at turtle pace in crystal blue seas off Barbados. Then a faster trans Atlantic taking just 6h20 JFK-LHR.

and not a single accident :p:D:geek::rolleyes:

Yep, two years of disruption, £244 million and I bet the rush hour queues are just as bad when they’ve finished it! By the way, the M27 average speed cameras were switched on yesterday.

The M3 / M27 junction is going to be “fun” for a couple of years...
