Hi All, Being The proud owner of a W211 E320cdi Cdi Avantguarde, I absolutely love the car, apart from the Fuel Economy! Only about 22/23 Locally, and 28/29 On a run!
I have been tempted to try one of the Advertised Fuel Savers, That you plug in to the OBD port, but have varying reports of their worth!
Has anybody tried one on this model? And did it work for you??
If not, has anyone got any fuel saving Tips!
Thankyou
Eddie

Hello and welcome,

I used to average well over 36mpg for 100k Miles in my W211 E320 so yours isn’t working correctly. I wouldn’t be plugging any snake oil into the OBD port. Check your tyres are pumped up correctly first off and stop braking. No idea on where or how you’re driving but that will be as big a way to improve your fuel economy as anything.

I’m assuming your car is maintained.

that's very low for a 320cdi , I get 30+ out of my 221 with the same engine with no trouble at all , have you actually worked it out or are you going off the trip comp ?

AS others have said, I think you have a problem. I have the same vehicle and have averaged over 35 mpg over 70k miles. Maybe down in the mid 20's if mainly local driving but up to 44 mpg when on a 400 mile plus journey.

27 round town and 39 on a run is a very good set of numbers for a 2006 car

if you drive over 80 I saw a clear drop of 3 to 4 mpg,

I can see trying to enjoy using it 25 and 34 would be normal

All relative really down to outside temperature, traffic conditions, distance travelled and how you like to drive it. If you do a 10 mile run on A roads I would expect your car to return circa 35mpg if it doesn’t there is a problem

I get early 40's on a 300 mile run on my facelift E320cdi . I would say if the car is warm and you are on the motorway on cruise control at 70mph and you reset the fuel consumption readout you should be getting about 45mpg .
If not I'd say something wrong as well .
If I zeroed my readout in some of the long 50mph zones on the M1/M6 at the moment I would show late 50's (on cruise control)

Yes it is well maintained, and I have only had this one for just over twelve months. Previously I had a 320cdi. W210 Which was much better on Fuel!

Thankyou Malcolm! It is a lovely car, in immaculate, Pristine condition, and I am certainly not a TearArse Driver, But would love a few more MPG’s!
My son has a BMW with the same size engine, and he gets 42 MPG Locally, and 48/52 on a run, but I still prefer my Mercedes!!

That was the IL6 which was significant lower power than the V6 you have now...

Short local journeys with my IL6 210 gives 25mpg, show it an average of 50mph over 100 miles and it returns 45+ measured brim to brim, once you get the old lump moving it is surprisingly economical.

My 210 is fitted with the OM613 EU3 engine whereas you’re running the OM648 EU4 engine fitted to the 211 which is slightly higher rated at 204bhp compared to 197bhp in mine so nothing in it power wise.

If your car is high mileage even though well maintained it might be suffering from worn injectors leading to overfuelling but if it’s running ok I’d leave it any attempt to look into the fuelling side of things could rack up a large bill, refurbed injectors alone £900
