..not the 'pair' that fit above the passenger foot-well but the one under the bonnet (hood).

There are TWO part number variants for this filter that I do know but here lies my confusion.

Checking the MANN site I though I had sussed the correct one indeed it was confirmed by MANN as correct.

So checking prices as one does I call my MB spares department and having given the chassis number I find that they are quoting the 'other' filter - which to be fair is over £7.00 cheaper.

Checking the service invoices/records I had with the car from the previous owner I find that the more expensive filter had been fitted by his MB garage which ties in with the MANN filter part number ans price (give or take a couple of £'s)

Now whilst I do not doubt that my local MB spares dept is wrong I do not want to fit the wrong one neither do I want to pay for a more expensive item if not needed - so can someone help throw light on the subject.

My car has THERMOTRONIC 4 ZONE A/C system fitted - sales code 581, whatever that might mean?

Thanks Malcolm appreciate it. I think that the MB part number IS: -
A211 830 00 18

which equates to the MANN Filter Part: -
CUK3172/1

Call me a cheapskate if you like. With the cabin air filter, I tend to shake it out onto a bit of old carpet on the floor to get rid of the trapped particles. Then I simply put it back. Saves a few quid and seems to work perfectly for me. Don't think I'd do it with an oil filter though !
PS. It's actually more a matter of banging it (dirty side down, of course) on to the carpet, if you see what I mean !

I do the above in between the change interval so after a year. They arent expensive or hard to change, and they keep the dirt and smells out the air in the cabin so worth changing IMO.

Regarding the two different filters available I think you will find one is just a standard filter and the other more expensive one is an activated carbon filter which is obviously better.

Thanks Malcolm but it is not this one but the one under the bonnet I am on about - incidentally the one shown comes as a pack of two and for the thermotronic system is the first part number you quote.

Thanks anyway.
