Spent nearly 300 quid on a boot catch, fitted it and put the tailgate back together, then went out and burned some rubber.

I deserved it because I've not driven too fast for the last few days because the tailgate has been held in by rope, it's been a bit noisy on the motorway.

busters the boy!

I didn't do anything, but the garage did an MOT test on my 23 year old 230e and it passed (phew).

It passed last year too, but this is the first MOT under my ownership and I was a tad apprehensive.

Thanks, i thought i would go for the correct fit 05 (or was it 06?) to 08 or so AMG ones which you see on most of the SL500's from that era. Ive had a couple of other sets but was never 100% happy with them. I am liking these though, more subtle than my other sets i guess.

Installed a garage remote opener into the rear of the drivers seat.
Yeh I know it sounds weird but Malcolm will probably remember a previous thread where I was looking at convenient way to power a 12 volt opener I had bought.
The result is that I shorted the micro switch and soldered fly leads to the battery terminals (cell removed now obviously).
When I use the drivers door switch to lower the head rest (and simultaneously power the opener) the garage door opens or closes as desired. It means I may need to raise the headrest first a little but that's no great issue.

Any tea leaf can't nick the remote to gain entry though the garage, and to figure out how to open the door from my mod seems pretty unlikely.

It's a fair point Pete.

1st they need to break into the Merc,
and while the alarm is sounding they need to work out how to power the head rest, if they know Mercs they have a chance.

Still they need to raise the door and deal with the house alarm within 20 seconds, while the Merc is sounding also.

The other option is to dismantle the seat, with the alarm sounding, and nick the remote for later use. If they can power the remote without knackering it they would then have to deal with the house alarm on that day.

That gets them into MY garage of many nice trickets but the door to the house should be locked, if I was the last one through it anyway.

Did I mention the dog, maybe I should get one.
