SL500 2003
Morning,

New to this forum as I've recently bought a 2003 R230 SL500. Very pleased with it so far. I'd like to make a few upgrades, in particular a new wood/leather steering wheel and gear selector. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where i should look. I've had a look on ebay and found this (link below), but dont know if its the correct wheel for my car.

What wheel do you have on your car currently? I have a black leather/ walnut burr wheel on my W215 that I might be interested in swapping.

Beautiful car and lovely colour combination.

If it is an SL500 why does it have "V8 Kompressor" badges on the wings??

Don't think that will work with my car. Could you see the pictures I attached to the thread?

They're both off the same platform so they should work...

Its an SL500 for sure. The badges are clearly addons.

Nice car though, good colour combination and it has the sought after AMG body kit.

Thats a 2008 wheel and not compatible.
You need the four spoke design same as you have already.

R230 SL500 - oh yeah!
Nice car. Welcome to the forum. You can always remove the badges if you wanted go - mine came with the same ones and I still haven't gotten round to removing them.

The car came with those badges on it. Might leave the V8 on but the Kompressor is coming off. Also has SL55 on the back. That too will come off soon.

Very easy to change wood or anything on a SL, I have had it all off many times.

Loving cruising around in the SL in this sunshine. The only real problem i've discovered is that the speakers appear to not work if any bass is added! The distortion is coming from the doors. Anyone know any more about what speakers are used, size etc. Nothing I can find in the handbooks or online. Cheers.

I don't think there is any reference to the speakers in the handbooks, or workshop manuals for that matter mainly because the speakers are rubbish

I had to replace mine in the SL which where these in the photos, though you can get replacements second hand as I did, but a gamble whether they will be ok.

They are also Chinese as are the Bose speakers in both my SL's

I had an issue with the bass speaker in one door cutting out on my 2000 R129, I changed the speaker but the problem persisted and it turned out to be the crossover rather than the speaker itself.

Ps. lovely looking car by the way, I do like the colour combination. :)
