C class C220 2012
Hi everyone,
I've recently bought a 2012 C class from a car garage and for the first week of owning it i decided to give it a good clean. upon clay barring it to get the surface clean I noticed the paint had micro blisters all over.. majority on the bonnet, roof, boot and sides.. can anyone suggest what the best point of action would be? I.e Contact garage who I bought it from or call Mercedes regarding the paint failing? It's been fully serviced by Mercedes themselves and has been looked after apart from the paint isn't up to scratch!

Your first call should always be the garage you bought it from, they have to be given the option to address the problem..

I shall call the garage tomorrow as the salesmen did say it has a 28 day warranty but I'm unsure what the warranty entailed. I'm not the best at talking about issues like this as I've never had to do it before

Fire opal red
I thought so. I believe there are well documented problems with that colour which have been discussed before on this forum. I'm not sure whether Merecedes will accept liability but, as John says, go back to the garage first.

Update - I just did a search on "Fire Opal Red" on this forum and it brings up loads of comment about problems others have had. Try this one: http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/i...icro-blistered-paintwork.158463/#post-1477830

Good luck!

Thanks for the information guys! I'll be sure to write back to the response of the garage and from MB hopefully it goes well, as The car had winter tyres on I've bought a new set of tyres so don't want to go down the route of getting a refund

You also don't want to go down the route of a full body respray with the thought of a ticking corrosion time bomb either, if you can help it...

Yeah you're right I'll find out tomorrow then if no luck I'll go down the refund option I've still got three of the winter tyres so I can swap them over at another lower cost

Good luck Harry. It's a real shame for this to happen with a "new" but better to find out now I suppose! o_O

Seeing as it's got FSH Merc will more than likely re-paint it under warranty.
As said there's loads on here regarding that colour, not sure if they are still using it ?.
I would look for a Full refund tbh , cars never the same after being painted, and they would have to take it back to metal to be sure it doesn't come through again.
More trouble than it's worth in my opinion.
Good luck with it , keep us posted.

They changed the paint formulation, which is a massive job in its own right.

The paint formulation would have been changed by the people who make the paint...

Spontanaeously and without direction from MB's own materials design engineering centre... of course that's how it happens.

You need to get on the blower to Automotive Lighting tomorrow. I'm sure they'd be all ears for their BMW work!

So there is a problem with a colour and they decide to change it, who pays, Mb or the paint company. A reformulation is a very easy thing to do, any decent painter can reformulate a colour or shade. I do suppose you will also know why fire opal red is microblistering

Totally agree, burning a set of tyres will be insignificant in comparison.
You could sell the tyres and put back the old winter ones.

I would be out of that space in a heartbeat!
Or if I paid £10K then a £7000 refund might tempt me. Of that magnitude.
