I have a trip coming up to Windermere and would like suggestions for a scenic drive around the area. My only requirement is that it must be doable in about 4 hours and have a nice pub or two on the way.

Thanks

a run around the lake is a good start. I'm trying to think of particularly good drives around there, but there are so many.....

when I lived in Cumbria, often id just drive, turn at a junction and see where I ended up!

Patterdale village and Ullswater lake is also a pretty drive from Windermere, Keswick is worth a look, depending on what you want from the trip (Pencil museum, and if its still open, Cars of the Stars) and ive heard (never been myself) that the Lakeland Motor Museum is also worth a look

Lakes roads are lovely but can get very busy.

And the locals dont always keep to their side of the road or drive at suitable speeds. Just because the road has a 60 limit doesn't mean you have to drive at 60! I was in an ML and at times i was squeezed against the rock walls lining the road.

Spent many happy hours in the lakes in 4x4s off the beaten track. For the most scenic routes its the only way to go.
Driving over the Gatescarth Pass in an FC101 is one hell of an experience as is going up and down Parkamoor in a Defender.
