Today marked a sad day for me my as I stood in despairs at my mercedes specialist...... My 2007 GL 420 and me have had a bad year! I have shelled out over 3,000 in 10 months on problem after problem my transmission is now slipping this is even after an oil change and top up my transfer box is winning and my off side turbo is leaking oil...... Suspension compressor is also going bad. My previous CLK55 never had any issues in 4 years so maybe I picked a bad one in this GL but full mb history came with her and she was £73k after 11k of extras..... Tomorrow I'm going to look at a Range Rover and although it won't tick the 7 seat box I'm confident it will serve me more reliably than the GL however I'm gutted really as the GL I was so optimistic about it ️ I have never been someone to expect to run a prestigious car for free but this has been incredibly expensive for me

not sure what other issues you have but a full MB history wouldn't have prevented ANY of the issues you have mentioned, IMO.

I have a friend who has run range rovers (3 sports and a full sized one, last time I saw him) for a while now and they have been LOTS of trouble (all 4 of them) but he likes them so spends the money sticking with them.
personally I can think of better cars for less money than the range rovers. and once they get a few years old, I wonder how the Jaguar 4x4s will compare for reliability with the range rovers?

Sorry to hear of your problems, I have to agree in your circumstances I would get rid of it. I know too many people who keep paying for repairs hoping it will sort it this time. Fortunately in my 51 years of driving I have only had one unreliable car, a 1972 BLMC 1300. Yes I sold it.

Used to have a C63...
Sorry to hear. Regrettably, every manufacturer produces the odd problem-child.

If it helps, my brother is on his second Rangey Sport (this one is current gen) and neither have missed a beat in 7yrs ownership!

I run a range rover vogue pal and trust me when I say they can be big trouble , fab vehicle when fit though , nothing comes close to all round ability / comfort that one provides , be aware that many sell their RR on when there are big bills looming but like the Mercedes , find a good specialist and avoid the £125ph of main dealer labour and choose your RR carefully
good luck

It pains me to say ( being a Mercedes enthusiast ) but an Audi Q7 is quite a good, erm......thing :geek:

Would not buy a Range Rover Buddy, if you do put an extra 10k in the bank to keep fixing it.

My Dad just paid £3750 to fix his disco ( body off to replace Turbo ) Hes also had 2 egr,s go. Around a £1000 for the pair]

1 injector replaced £950 , Alternator £600. List go,s on. Lovley looking cars , but crap. And they rot underneath !!

the whole 'body off' scenario seems to be an issue with more recent models of ANYTHING made by Land Rover as a company. again, probably partly designed for ease of assembly, and partly to make it impossible for DIYers to repair anything later in the cars life, leaving owners with bigger than needs be bills and ultimately I feel it will backfire on them.

The GL sounds like it's all sorted now for the next owner :D

Dads gutted

He thought he bought a quality motor for towing. Lovley motor with good spec and drives really well.

One owner example with full dealer history.

The more i read about the disco,s / range rovers its horrific. Lots of the bits on them are citroen !!
Think people buy them more for the image. Dad just wanted a good towing motor

Had a P38, only 60k miles on it, sure it was then an older Range Rover, but was at garage every month, worst vehicle, bar none I ever owned.

Indeed it visited the garage more often than nearly all my other cars out together over a 35 period!

I read it as needing:
Transfer box
Possible gearbox
Airmatic pump
And a Turbo
